There is, respectfully to others breed lovers, no other dog for me. I've lost Labs in divorce settlements, lost labs to cancer and as someone who works in explosive detection, worked with Auburn University's Canine Odor Detection Research Department (Google their website), specializing in the use and breeding of Labs, feels there is no greater friend, and no greater dog.
I am being selfish emotionally...there is only one #1 breed...Das Lab!
My girl is now looking at me eyes that tell me I should be giving her a "Bedtime Treat" bone now...gotta go!!!!
Go Lab Lovers!!!!
Great Post!
Welcome to FR
Looks like a white chinned, 9 year old black Dire standing proudly beside his yellow Dame and their latest brood?????
Oops...Dire = Sire...sorry
Thanks Kanawa...looked at your home page and Sam...I had a couple of Sammies...Samantha and Sampson...always loved the name Sam for my best friends!!!
I’ve had Cockers since 1979. I am very careful to only get them from show breeders. These three are everything a cocker is supposed to be, from size, disposition, health, etc. If people who stop getting dogs from puppy mills via dog shops or internet and backyard breeders our shelters would be empty and our pets would all be better off. I have seen people say they have cocker puppies and brag about them having a merel (sp) gene — that happens to be a very undesireable gene and no cocker with it in their line should ever be bred, but most buyers who are not knowledgeable haven’t a clue and unscrupulous breeders make it sound like something special. I love the parti- with sable markings. Sable is not an undesireable health-wise, but you cannot show them with sable.
I’ve been working in the pet industry for over 30 years, mostly as a groomer and breeder. I love labs! I love Cockers. I once worked with a Cocker whose owners wouldn’t keep him up and then had him de-matted to keep him in full coat. I met him after this trauma and every 4-6 weeks I groomed him. After 2 years anyone could groom him and he was wonderful.
I’ve never met a Yorky that wasn’t in touch with its inner Pit Bull. LOL! 200lbs of terrier in a tiny body!
Beagles make me melt and Dachsunds always break my heart because their extra tough nails make them afraid of the groomer :>(
I guess I’ll cut this short and tell what breeds I don’t like. Afghan hounds. Dumb as a post with a hounds tenacity and ability to ignore it’s owner.
I am currently held captive by a rescued Rat Terrier. The Stockholm syndrome is fully operational!
Sam the Afghan I babysat was 5 years old and DID NOT KNOW HIS NAME. He had the same name since he was 8 weeks old. They may have an innate ability for survival, not quite what most people want in a canine companion. Sure we want them to stay safe, but most of us would like it if they came when called by their name.
Whatta face!!!
I think bullies are just the best!!
I have a new Rat Terrier too. But I stole mine. He was underfed and terribly neglected. The former owners know I stole him, but they haven’t said anything to me.
He’s well fed and happy now, and he’s brought new life to my other dogs, especially my Lucky (Pit Bull, Beagle, and Shih Tzu mix).
My babies are on the list. I wish I could say yay, but usually the dogs on these lists are overbred and the breed suffers. I've seen it with GSDs, Cockers, Boxers, etc. It's unfortunate.
He’s so handsome!!! I’m very sorry for your loss. I don’t know what I will do when that time comes. Princess, my brindle, has been my friend, shrink, tear-dryer and shoulder to cry on through 4 deployments. I know I will never own another dog like her.
Hmmmmm
I've read that autistic kids don't respond to their names when young.
~LOL~ one of my three is named Lady — and the name really fits her.
Just a silly thing that bugs me, but labs aren’t white, they’re yellow. Just like many people ask me if my golden retrievers are golden labs....
Actually pugs are quite bright. I see them often in obedience. They also have fun personalities. If you can stand snoring.
