Masonic rituals live on

President-elect Barack Obama's swearing-in Tuesday will incorporate several elements out of America's Masonic past.

One-third of the signers of the Constitution, many of the Bill of Rights signers and America's first few presidents (except for Thomas Jefferson) were Freemasons, a fraternal organization that became public in early 18th-century England.

Although it became fabulously popular in America, at one time encompassing 10 percent of the population, Pope Clement XII condemned Freemasonry in 1738 as heretical. The latest pronouncement was issued in 1983 by then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger - now Pope Benedict XVI - who called Masonic practices "irreconcilable" with Catholic doctrine.

Still, as the first president, George Washington had to come up with appropriate rituals for the new country. He borrowed many of them from Masonic rites he knew as "worshipful leader" of a lodge in Alexandria.

His Masonic gavel is on display at the Capitol Visitor Center. Until this inauguration, Washington's Masonic Bible - on which he swore his obligations as a Freemason - was used for the presidential oath of office. President-elect Barack Obama will use Abraham Lincoln's Bible.

The worshipful master administered the Masonic oaths. This was adapted to the president vowing to serve his country in an oath administered by the top justice of the Supreme Court.

I learned all this from Garrison Courtney, a 30-something government worker who gives Masonic tours of the District in his spare time. He is worshipful master at the Cincinnatus Lodge in Georgetown. Contrary to public perceptions of Masons being older white guys, current local membership is a racially and religiously mixed group of Gen-X men, he says.

They have, he adds, gotten a bad rap as a secretive organization.

"If people have questions, we will tell them," he says. "We're pretty open as an organization."

She's got a few things wrong here. That was NOT The General's Masonic Bible he swore his Freemasonry oaths on: he became a Freemason in the early 1750s in Fredericksburg, VA. The bible used for his 1789 inauguration in NYC came from the St John's Lodge in NYC.

Further, I believe bibles other than the one used for The General have been used in the past aside from the one used for Lincoln. The one used in 1789 is still kept by the Masons in NYC.

As most in America were not Roman Catholics what the Pope thought of their clubs and organizations was irrelevant.

They paid as much attention to his pronouncements as I do to "Ask the Imam".

I guess My Lord Jesus Christ will be casting me into the pit for being a Mason, lo these many years!

I have no idea what Christ will do with your soul. That's way far above my pay grade.

I do know that no man can serve two masters. You can't claim Christ as Lord and venerate - even worship - Lucifer.

And ultimately, the worship of Lucifer is what Freemasonry is all about.

As Albert Pike put it: DOUBT IT NOT!

One of my favorite stories about Masonic brotherhood is the legend about Sam Houston's encounter with Santa Ana. Supposedly, when Antonio Lopez was captured, he gave Sam Houston the Masonic handshake for distress (does such a handshake exist?). Houston then decided to spare his life. This is how I heard the story, although I'm sure various other versions exist.

I was wondering if any Masons here have seen "The Magic Flute" and "get it" on another level then us non-Masons do.

LOL! You do realize that Mexican politicians have historically been anti-clerical and anti-Catholic. Vicente Fox was the first openly Catholic Mexican president since Porfirio Diaz. Hell, as mentioned above, Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana was a freemason and an agnostic (although not as anti-religious as early PRIstas would be 80 years later).

What the pope says doesn’t really matter. He is the leader of a foreign nation.

You do realize that many in the RCC considered “Americanism” and “Republicanism” to be “sins” in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Think what you mean is what the pope says doesn’t really matter to you.

Billions of people of nations throughout the world however disagree.

There are two “Lucifers”. The most notorious one is Lucifer, the fallen angel. The other, referenced by Freemasonry in aligory only, is the ancient “Light-Giver”. Not the same cat, Daddy-O!

2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

The thing about the Devil is that he lies. He is "the father of lies." And this transparent whopper that the Freemasons repeat has to be one of his greatest and most effective lies in history. It's amazing to me that any Christian would buy into this obvious demonic lie. Freemasons worship Lucifer but we have this "secret" knowledge that our Lucifer isn't the guy Christ came to destroy. It's a different guy altogether. Trust us!

Indeed, what Christ said of the gullible in his day is true of Freemasons today - they would "strain at a gnat and swallow a camel."

Yes, Americanism certainly. It cannot be a spiritual movement as was certainly the upshot in 19th century. See writings of Solange Hertz.

Republicanism is to be tolerated (tolerai, meaning essentially dealt with in patience) as Roman Catholicism can exist within it as in Franco’s Spain and (EVEN!?) (ostensibly!?) the USA. It is not unto itself sinful.

The Freemasonry magazine Le Symbolisme published in 1962:

“Do not let people say, my brethren, that Freemasonry is the counter-church. This was only a phrase suited to the occasion; basically, Freemasonry wants to be a super-church which will bring all churches together in her bosom.”

The “visible” “Roman Catholic Church” of the Vatican has fallen to Freemasonry with “Vatican II” and “Novus Ordo” “Mass of Paul 6”. Indeed most rites are now invalid.

Millions of “Traditional Catholics” agree to some level. I, for one, am a “sedevacantist” and hold the papal chair is EMPTY. Mel Gibson and his Dad are ‘sedes’, BTW.

http://www.novusordowatch.org/ There are no answers for V2/NO

http://www.traditio.com/ Try as they might with ‘answers’

http://www.dailycatholic.org/2006qui.htm Fr Campbell’s Sermons- he hasn’t been on since Ratzinger’s (present “Pope”)usurpation. Campbell addresses Wojtila (JPII) often.

http://www.dailycatholic.org/tradport.htm just take a look- I’d say half are from sedevacantists

http://www.mostholyfamilymonastery.com/ these fellows are very radical and heavily against Baptism of Blood/Baptism of Desire but have some great material – and google vids . One on Ratzinger’s many errors and that he isn’t even a bishop.

http://sedevacantist.com/ debates you can view. Much to offer. Sites been basically static for months but its open for viewing.

The former is a talented filmaker, but a womanizing nutcase, while the latter is an anti-American Jew-hater. These are facts. In other words, not exactly the best spokesmen for their cause.

Any religious movement that is "anti-Americanism" is no better than the Taliban, IMHO.

As Albert Pike put it: DOUBT IT NOT!

How do you know? You've never read Pike. Your post #16 proves it.

There's alot of information contained in those "..."s.

Before you go casting stones, I suggest you go and see for yourself. Copies of Morals and Dogma can be found at any used book store for a couple of dollars. Even less at yard sales.
