LOS ANGELES -- Ricardo Montalban, the Mexican-born actor who became a star in splashy MGM musicals and later as the wish-fulfilling Mr. Roarke in TV's "Fantasy Island," died Wednesday morning at his home, a city councilman said. He was 88. Montalban's death was announced at a meeting of the city council by president Eric Garcetti, who represents the district where the actor lived. Garcetti did not give a cause of death.

Major bummer. He was so cool. Saturday Night Live immortalized his coolness with their Spanish Game Show: “Quien Es Mas Macho?” (Who is More Macho?) And every question was “Who is more macho...”fill in male celebrity here” or RICARDO MONTALBAN! And of course, the correct answer was always, Ricardo Montalban!

Adios, senor. We will miss you. Que Dios estara con su familia.

Didn't read all the posts, but I was surprised to find out years ago his brother Carlos was the Savarin coffee guy when I was growing up. They sounded identical.

That is my understanding of Mr. Montalban as well. A nice, good Catholic boy married forever to the love of his life.

RIP.

Patrick McGoohan was #1 Ricardo Montalban #2

Pat Hingle passed away on the third. I didn't see the news article until a day or two ago.

I bet the casket will be lined with Corinthian Leather.

My husband and I often play a game. It's called guess which number post on FR will contain whatever phrase seems appropriate to the news story we heard elsewhere.

You were even faster than we thought FR would be!

We’ve lost yet another TREASURE. While I try my best, I’ll never be the actor He was. Once this generation of Actors are gone, there will be no comparison from that generation to this generation.

Rest In Peace ... you deserve it.. Thank you for all the entertaining years.

Oh man, this sucks. One thing I remember about him was how fit he was. He had serious pecs even in his latter years, I figured he’d make it to 100 easy. But he did have a stroke a few years back.

“He married Georgiana Young, an actress, in 1944; they had four children. She was half-sister of the actresses Sally Blane, Polly Ann Young, and Loretta Young, who nicknamed her “Georgie”. After 63 years of marriage, Georgiana Young de Montalbán died on November 13, 2007, at the age of 84.”

Just over a year layer, he is gone too. That’s love. RIP sir.

“One of the best marketing gimmicks of all time. The stuff was produced in a plant in New Jersey and the “Corinthian” was purely a marketing ploy. “

Yes, it was manufactured in Shangri La, NJ.

It’s quite common for elderly men to die soon after their wives - Pat Nixon followed by Richard, Pat Buckley followed by Bill, and so on.

I didn’t know Ricardo Montalban had been so ill in recent years. He was obviously a very determined man.

Quote from that ad:

"I have much more than great comfort from this SMALL Chrysler..."

Exactly why the Big Three crashed when fuel skyrocketed. This POS mega boat was considered a small. I bet 95% of them were rusted out hulks within 6 years.

Ricardo sure could sell it though. He made that hunk of garbage sound classy.

I was sorry to hear of his passing. I believe I heard
of this on Mark Levin’s Show last night.

Ricardo Montalban was one of the good guys. A Conservative.

Rest in peace, R. M.

Pingin’ a few others here now.
