Treasury nominee didn't pay taxesTreasury Secretary Nominee Failed to Pay His Taxes?!

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the Watchdog's Watchdog, has, along with the chair of the Senate Finance Committee, Max Baucus (D-MT), released some pretty disturbing documents regarding the repeated failure to pay required taxes by Tim Geithner, the Obama pick to head up Treasury. Yep, that would be the Treasury Department--the parent agency of the IRS.

The underpayments are mostly related to Geithner's time at the International Monetary Fund. All U.S. citizens who work for the I.M.F. are required to file self-employment payroll taxes, since the I.M.F., as an international organization, does not withhold these taxes for Social Security and Medicare. After a 2006 IRS audit found that the payroll taxes were missing on his 2003 and 2004 returns, Geithner paid additional taxes and interest of $16,732 (the IRS declined to impose any penalties). Geithner then voluntarily amended his tax returns for 2001 and 2002 for an additional $25,970, but only after the Obama transition team discovered the same lapse in his payroll taxes (check out Geithner's tax records to learn more).

The documents also reveal that Geithner failed to ascertain whether or not his housekeeper was legally allowed to work in the the U.S. Do we really have yet another nominee with a nanny problem? When will these people learn??? Geithner's scheduled confirmation hearing has now been postponed.

I never would’ve imagined that an illegal alien former and probably current drug dealer with ties to terrorists who spends day and night worrying about the treatment of captured al Qaeda agents would ever nominate somebody who cheated on their taxes.

Shocked.

It would change America if taxpayers had to write a CHECK once a year for Social Security and Medicare. With holding these taxes in weekly installments hides their true cost.

This is the genius who is supposed to get us out of our economic troubles?

Why didn’t he notice that money for Social Security and Medicare was, ***all of a sudden***, no longer being taken out of his paycheck?

Can’t he read?

Since the Secretary of Treasury doesn’t pay his taxes, I assume it will be A-OK if I don’t either.

Yet another example of Obama’s superior vetting skills.

Not sure what that means.

But I suspect it's a "comment" on my post about this being the umpteenth thread.

The problem with dupe threads is that, when you post to one, another pops up. Maybe the first one gets deleted, so you have to repost...etc, ad infinitum.

It could all be solved by posters acting responsibly enough, having enough respect for other posters, to use the "search" feature.

Really, that would be so...civilized.

I'm self employed and expected to make my quarterly payments on schedule. As a matter of fact, I've not missed in 30 years.

There is no excuse for this stuff from people that claim to be our betters and claim the right to confiscate the fruits of our labors.

Note that even after his audit, he didn't bother to pay for 01 & 02 until AFTER the transition team found he was cheating then also. Uh, yes folks, when you and I do it, it is referred to as cheating, or more often by the libs as, NOT PAYING OUR FAIR SHARE.

and this will be picked up by the lame-stream press and be constantly broadcast until the nominee runs screaming for the hills when?

...Oh wait. Sorry. It's not a Republican nominee, so it'll never happen. Media to sweep it under rug as we speak . . .

Carry on, folks . . . .

He’s a Democrat. Paying taxes is only for idiot conservatives who think they are being responsible and law-abiding.

I want a boat and $1 billion so I can tell my boss what to do with his steenking job.

After all if the “captains of industry” can take their companies into ruin and get a big payoff for it, shouldn’t I be able to do the same thing with MY job????

I don’t care as many others don’t. Some of us work all day long and can’t get to read news at work.

Tonight is the first time I checked in to read news, and the first time I saw an article on this.

Maybe you should spend some time away from FR. It will help the addiction.

Trust me, if you ever get around to contributing anything meaningful to the discussion, you’ll be annoyed when it gets deleted.
