Probably the most intelligent thread going right now.

The male hooded merganser is unquestionably beautiful, but there's just something about the female's pompadour that ya gotta love!
Thanks.

Very skittish birds.
I used to see them on a pond in Ohio in Late February, heading North.

Can't do a damn thing about politics right now, may as well chase birds until I see a chance.

Can't do a damn thing about politics right nowWell, you did say they were "migrating," didn't you? That might offend some FReepers.

Well, they
look like ducks.
And they swim like ducks.
But do they walk/quack like ducks?

Cool pics, Swampy! Cold weather headed our way too and I noticed the other day that the oak trees are already bronzing up. They’ll get zapped. Sposed to be a high of 30 Thurs and Fri. Sigh. One way or the other—make up your mind! We never know whether to wear shorts and carry long johns or vice versa.

We need more of these types of threads. Calming.

We don’t see the hooded mergansers here but I like the common mergansers better anyway. They usually show up about the time the ice breaks up. They stay for a few weeks and leave thousands of dead fish in their wake.
