Self-ping. I may have to send that letter myself soon.
how to kill employee morale quickly - tell them if things so beyond their control (taxes) go up at all on the boss, they lose their jobs.
If this were written at a company for real, imagine the instant morale mess that would occur - it would be business suicide.
One reason I am a conservative is that, although I am very risk-averse and (thus) not an entrepreneur like the author, I have the utmost appreciation for such people because THEY create the jobs that give ME opportunity.
Wow.
So...if he didn’t spend and didn’t save but instead invested every dollar he got back into his company, then if he shuts it down what does he retire on?
Yep that’s about right. Ranks up there with the other “bosses letter” talking about needing to lay people off soon and couldn’t figure out how to choose....until he walked out into the parking lot and noticed the Obama bumper stickers. Came back in and laid off everyone who had an Obama sticker.
Owners of small businesses are the backbone of this country and our economy. And they get screwed every day by big government.
I find management (real management) to be an interesting concept. Entrepreneurs generally work like draft horses i.e. long and hard an unappreciated.
I tried to build a business back in the 1980s and failed. I found in those days the freedom such builders have is the freedom to work 100 hour weeks. Among other things it taught me to appreciate builders who succeed.
I also find it interesting that the employees who denigrate the "freedom" of the managers, in the end, look to the managers to do the heavy lifting when heavy lifting is required. This manifests in EVERY organization, EVERY one. I suppose that makes sense because the organization must fail if the heavy lifters are incapable of heavy lifting. I guess that makes organizations symbiotic.
I do know if we make it impossible for the managers to make management worthwhile we will collapse as a civilization.

I can’t count the times I have wanted to write that letter... with a few changes based on the economy of scale. (Mostly the 600 employee and $2.7 Million quarterly check part...)
Yep.
If this is a real guy he just made mistake #1: He admitted he will leave the country to avoid paying taxes. In that case the IRS will still tax you in absentia, and throw you in jail if they ever catch you. They won’t accept the claim that you’ve renounced your citizenship.

That’s an impressive rant. It also reflects the general feelings I heard people express lately.
One web reference cites the author of this letter as: Michael A. Crowley, PE Crowley, Crisp & Associates, Inc. Professional Engineers 1906 South Main Street Suite 122 Wake Forest, NC 27587
I find it most amazing that among the people I work with they cannot seem to grasp one simple truth: Business does not exist to provide them with jobs and health insurance and paid vacations; business exists to produce wealth and make profits. All those other things are simply byproducts.
