Net Applications' Operating System Market Share for December 2008:
Net Applications' Operating System Market Share Trend for Apple Macintosh for January 2007 to December 2008:
More details can be seen via Net Applications' here.
MacDailyNews Note: As always, the actual percentage numbers are not as important as the trends shown since all "market share" reports have unique measurement sources. Net Applications, for example measures 40,000 corporate and ecommerce websites how many of which are restricted to WIndows and/or IE, if any, we do not know. If anything, Net Applications is providing one measure of installed base, rather than "market share." Again, what's important is the trend (and consistent data points). The trend shows Apple's Macintosh ascending.

I hate to admit it, but right now they have a superior product. My Macbook Pro kicks the crap out of the Vista laptop I use at work.
With Vista, Microsoft has brought contempt for the customer to a new level. Apple is profiting from that.
Why do you hate to admit it? Are you a Microsoft shareholder or something? Or have you perhaps "shorted" Apple stock?
Regards,
So far, Ubuntu seems to be doing fine, but there are a few apps that haven't been fully GUI integrated for Linux and require command-line entries, which I'm not too fond of. Overall, Linux seems to be working good for me and it's free. I just use the XP to use some of the apps that aren't so convenient in Linux. I have a NTFS partition that can be accessed from either OS and is used as a storage/staging area for files that may need the dual access.
What is so wrong with Vista? Please provide details so I can replicate the issue(s) on one of my lab systems.
Apple OS share is rising because of Psystar and other clone sales and Hackintoshs. These brash young men are doing what uncle Stevie used to do. Before he became a boring old fossil that boring young fossils worship
No, DennisW, it is not the few hundred or few thousand Psystars that are causing this rise. It is the millions of new Apple Macs that were sold last year to previous Windows users.
I told you my friend may get a mac mini
Is some new version of it about to come out in 2009?
It is interesting that you cite the two areas of failure concerning Apple, the booting of Jobs and cloning, as the reason for the increase. They prospered when that brought Jobs back and eliminated licensing the OS.
Yaeh google news has lots of mac mini rumors. At least mac mini has DVI. Lots of todays little computers have VGA.
I refuse to use VGA displays unless I have no choice
In this down economy luxury items are doing terrible
Apple has to have some lower prices otherwise it will lose the great game
They can keep quality up and the looks very stylish but they must come in at lower price points for some items (this why Psystar is getting away with murder)
McDonald's and WalMart did great last year. Those two stocks and Family Dollar shined
Apple is entering perilous times. Many who love Apple will simply not be able to afford them and will go buy Windows machines or do without
Google phone will impact hard on iphone
Google does things right.
They rarely screw up
Did I touch a nerve?
Watch your mouth and attitude, unless you’d like a time out..
You always touch nerves among the cultists.
???
You have got to be kidding me. That's literally a drop in the bucket compared to Apple sales.
Remember that whole video purchase fiasco? Google Catalog? Google voice search by telephone? Google Coupons? Google Answers?
Google screws up all the time, but it's good. Their people get to work in personal projects that Google has no problem putting on line to see if they fly, which probably accounts for a good number of their failures.
