Happy New Year from Microsoft Corp.: Your Zune is dead. Thousands of Microsoft's Zune media players -- the software company's answer to Apple Inc.'s iPod -- unexpectedly conked out Wednesday and showed users an error message, prompting references to "Y2K for Zunes." The problems appeared when people tried to start up their devices.
Frustrated users lit up Microsoft's online support forum for Zunes with more than 2,500 messages by Wednesday afternoon.
Late Wednesday, the Redmond, Wash.-based company said the outage affected only the 30-gigabyte Zune models and was caused by a problem with their internal clock. Microsoft expected the problem to clear up as the clocks ticked over to Jan. 1, though users will have to jump through some hoops to get their Zunes back to normal, including letting the batteries die down completely before the devices will restart successfully.

The Apple nuts will start replying in 3..2..1..

i have an iPhone and Macbook. both great products. never owned appl before
Thank G_d Micro$oft does not build cars. :) Bosses everywhere would swiftly tire of the “sorry I’m late - the damn car just kept rebooting every time I tried to leave the driveway...” from employees.
Isn’t there rumors that he’s serious sick? That’d be pretty boring to be that fly.
Anyways, Microsoft’s now dead to me, this crap happening and all. I took XP off my system today and am now looking to rid myself of my 360. Microsoft sucks.
Maybe someone in GAZA planted a virus....or someone in Israel wants to bring terrorism to Zune.
if it flashes such a message, it’s got to be malware. yes, of course, like “Bush” and global warming, that’s Gates’ fault.
Thank you sir.
FYI - my new blackberry curve is one amazing mp3 player too...
(I was shocked)
Just a heads up, Bill Gates hasn’t been associated with Microsoft for a while. Steve Ballmer’s the head there now.
Great.... just read this and turned my Zune on, frozen on the welcome screen. Dang it!
They work now. It was 12:00 gmt that caused it. A 24hr outage.
From Engadget.com:
“..Microsoft has finally acknowledged their boo-boo and explains it thusly: There is a bug in the internal clock driver causing the device to choke on the last day of a leap year...”
So I suppose we just wait until tomorrow for it to fix itself.
And seriously, there is NO Apple fan that could possible make a snide remark about this seeing all of the drama they have to go through with Jobs almost on a daily basis.
How many songs will it hold?
whatever will fit in a 4GB micro sd card
Where can I find a 4GB micro SD card? All the 4GB SD type cards I've seen are microSDHC, not microSD.
Does that MP3 player also support microSDHC?
