Large glass of wine can increase bowel and liver cancer risk by 20 per cent
Telegraph ^ | 27 Dec 2008 | Caroline Gammell

Drinking a pint of beer or two measures of gin or vodka on a nightly basis can also have the same effect.

The warning appears to conflict with other studies which suggest moderate alcohol intake can help combat heart disease.

Although the link has not been definitively explained, it is thought the alcohol damages a person's DNA, making them susceptible to the risk of cancer.

Bowel cancer is the third most common cancer in the UK, with more than 36,500 people diagnosed each year and 16,000 deaths.

More than 3,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with liver cancer each year and a similar number die.

The WCRF said there was convincing evidence that drinking alcohol also increased the risk of breast cancer and cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx and oesophagus.

It would be so sad to die at eighty from body breakdown and not have misspent one’s youth.

I never worry about quantity. My doctor says, “I usually recommend a glass of wine in the evening for my patients - but not for you!”

That's why I drink directly from the bottle.

The warning appears to conflict with other studies which suggest moderate alcohol intake can help combat heart disease.

How is that in conflict? It could both help the heart and damage the colon. There is no reason why those would necessarily be in conflict. (But then if I paid attention to the MSM about science I would be on the global warming bandwagon.)

Clearly, the study is flawed.

They did not isolate for even numbered glasses of wine -
just odd numbered. Talk about bias!

>>>>>Reading a series of conflicting medical studies increases my risk of consuming whatever the hell I want by 100%.<<<<<

Cholesterol was debunked a couple years ago in peer-reviewed studies, but I guess the cardio and cholesterol businesses shut that line of discussion down pretty quickly.

Soon enough, cholesterol was back with its familiar monster-in-the-closet scare stories.

That’s exactly what I drink.
Every day.
Sometimes a little more.
Sauvignon Blanc from Barefoot wineries
Reisling from Australia.
Great new 5 dollar wines from Argentina
with the Astica label/ Torrontes grape.
Finally broke out the bottle of Hermann Weimer Reisling
for Christmas dinner last night. Its from New York’s Finger Lakes region, which is full of wineries
I’ve been waiting for
2 years.

Well colon cancer isn’t that bad. They can just bypass it and put in a tube and drain it into those empty wine bottles you saved...

This is just a guess, but I’d postulate that in addition to being against wine and beer, Caroline Gammel (the author) is also against hamburgers, cigarettes, male ejaculations and men telling crude jokes about feminists.

In the end.....Let's get to the bottom line.

Visiting my doctor with some minor malady (to him, not me), we get a moment to chat about some other puzzling previously unreported physical anomalies that have come....and gone. I suppose some have their roots in diet, stress (whatever that is?) or political dyspepsia. Since my doctor is an old friend and we're of the same age, we speak frankly. And frankly we admit we're both getting older and things change, not necessarily to our liking or memories of our previous condition but according to a timeline that's individual and undetermined....yet.

Cheers!

"There's more old drunks, then there are old doctors, Off to the corner Saloon, half a block away, for me. For a fine pint of (nearby Paso Robles brewed) Firestone Doublebarrel Ale. Or maybe a (Colorado brewery) Flat Tire, instead. They are very similar. A bit more hops to the Firestone.

Try the Firestone IPA if one ~really~ like hops. That one has won awards, I hear. The Doublebarrel is semi-famous, too, won more than a few awards.

The IPA is very *flowery*, even perfumey, if one cares for such. Sky high alcohol, though. So forget about driving. Even after only about one. Two? Absolutely forget it. Not on a holiday Friday nite.
