A Few Reasons to Hate Christmas

- Christmas is really a pagan holiday to celebrate the winter solstice and the end of the harvast. Jesus was probably born in late September.
- Even if Jesus was born on December 25th,
an orgy of materialism showing friends and family how much you love them is not an appropriate way to celebrate his birth. - Many Christians recognize this paradox, hence the emphasis to "put Christ in Christmas." This means evening devotionals about the birth of Christ, special candles, and other rituals. Yet this has the effect of elevating Jesus' birth above his death and resurrection. Most Christians do not take comparable steps for Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday.

Every Christian holiday, without fail, brings out the kooks.

Actually it was a Roman holiday to Saturn, gifts, big meals, dress upped costumes.

The Puritans, the first religious pilgrims to America, banned Christmas because of its pagan origins. I was trying to start a similar discussion about authentic Christianity, but apparantly most people do not want a discussion but would rather make personal attacks. I will bow out of the thread, but feel free to send me a private message.

I can add one: Kids are taught to believe in Santa Clause. These children eventually grow up to become Democrats.

No you weren't.
For whatever reason this season brings no joy to you, for this I am truly sorry.
It would be my prayer that you are someday able to see through the materialism and commercialism of what has become of Christmas celebrations and reach into the joy this day can bring.
I give because Christ gave to me first.
I celebrate His birth because then I can celebrate the death and Resurrection.

So go ahead and hate it. I supposed you will report to your job that day.
Is it okay if I celebrate it the way I like? Or do I have to do everything you do?
What a maroon...

And Easter is from Ishtar, and Holloween is Samhain, and Labor Day was a commie invention to go have a picnic.
Listen, SURE it is overly commercial, but it is one day when kind words and Christian actions may demonstrate to others that when they want to be, His followers are different from the rest of the cruel beggers on this rock.
Cheer up and if YOU want to, go stand on a soapbox in the park and preach the Good News and get some real work done. Twenty minutes of saying "Jesus knows you personally and would love to help you get your life together through His free gift of Salvation" would be inifinetly more to the Glory of God than walking into the living room like you have and throwing down a dead carp just to see who will notice.

Kids are taught to believe in Santa Clause.Believers in Santa Clause grow up to be grammarians who compulsively diagram sentences and lecture harmless passers-by on the correct cases for their pronouns. Believers in Santa Claws dress their pets in silly costumes and enter them in the Christmas Parade.

And Easter is from Ishtar That's where the name comes from, which is why I actually used the phrase 'Resurrection Sunday' in my original post. The celebration does not. Contrary to atheistic claims, Jesus' resurrection is not borrowed from pagan religions. It is very different from any of the ancient Mystery religions.
