For several weeks now a few local radio stations have been playing Christmas music non-stop, and I love hearing the songs celebrating the season -- especially the traditional carols.
How can you help but feel better when you hear Nat King Cole's smooth voice singing "Chestnuts roasting on an open fire..." (The Christmas Song) or Bing Crosby wishing you a White Christmas with every Christmas card he writes. And when Mark Lowry asks Mary if she knew that her baby boy would one day walk on water, it gives me chills. My drive home from work from late November to late December is so much more peaceful and enjoyable as I hear so many cheerful and encouraging songs celebrating the nativity.
There are, however, a few annoying songs that seem to get a lot of play this time of year that prompt me to change the station as soon as they begin. Just the first few notes, before the lyrics even kick in, make me want to hurl, or lash out at the stupidity of the idiot that put the disc in the player.
So as a diversion from the more important issues of the day, please post the titles/artists of the songs of the season that induce the urge to vomit or cause you to change the station when you hear them.
Here are my top most annoying Christmas songs ever: 1. So This Is Christmas (War is over?) by John Lennon 2. Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time by Paul McCartney 3. Last Christmas I Gave You My Heart by Wham/George Michael 4. Santa Baby by Madonna
Jingle Bell Rock is the first Christmas song I remember hearing. I must have been about 4 yr. old at the time. I like it. I suppose it is because of the memories it envokes.
Oh gosh, our local station, 99.9 in Phoenix is playing Christmas music 24/7.
The most annoying song has to be Michael Jackson singing I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus. IN addition to that, any Christmas song sung by mondern day rockers is horrible, too.
Many awful songs listed so far. Add: “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”
Good to know somebody else hates them. They’re just so... blech.
Can’t stand Blue Christmas. Can’t stant “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”. Love, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
“Do They Know It’s Christmas?” the remake. What next? Rerecording We Are The World?
Isn’t it Madonna?
Another for the worst...
“Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer”
Thank you so much.....but to me it doesn’t even come close to Rogers version....I guess we agree to disagree.
Wonder if Rogers has a YOU TUBE version......I have no idea of how to look for that.
Jingle Bell Rock comes on the radio every damn time I get in the car.
SOMEBODY MAKE IT STOP!!! PUH-LEEEEEZE?!!!!....
Aren’t there SEVERAL Trans Siberian Orchestra touring just like there are different Blue Man Groups in different cities?
One of the absolute worst is “Please Daddy Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas.” Double-Yuk. The main problem with it is that is supposed to be taken very seriously. Merry Christmas, indeed.
da yoopers version is about the only one i like.
on the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me:
beer.
I get that way around ANYONE who lets their cellphone ring all day in a closed environment. ESPECIALLY when they look at the phone and refuse to answer it.
I forgot all about the Lennon song.
Christmas songs shouldn’t get you angry and political.
Really annoying: barking dogs jingle bells and anything by Alvin and the Chipmunks.
The Best:
Silent Night (Vienna Boys Choir)
O’ Christmas Tree (Vince Guiraldi - aka Charlie Brown Christmas)
White Christmas (Bing Crosby)
Newsong has a cool version of Little Drummer Boy - sounds like they enlisted the help of a drum corps.
Don’t know, don’t pay that much attention to them. Given that they always seem to manage to hit Tucson during their more than likely short touring schedule (when all you make is Christmas music touring outside November and December is probably doomed) it would seem likely.
