I vote “Merry Christmas Darling”. The lyrics are as shallow as they get, the melody is all over the place, and completely whitewashed of Jesus. Even calling it a Christmas song is a stretch because it is just a shallow love song that happens to mention Christmas.

My favorite was one of the guys from my school singing

That's nothing compared to the Christmas carols we used to sing when we were kids:

Fortunately, there is a lot of contemporary Christmas songs that are worthy but they never get much airplay because most radio stations pretty locked down their Christmas playlist 20 years ago and never varied it.

I totally agree with the 20 year locked playlist, but what songs would you recommend for contemporary songs? Are they just newer groups singing older songs, or are they original?

Burl Ives' "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas" is so bad that for the last dozen years or so, a co-worker and I call each other and hold the phone up to the car radio speakers whenever it comes on.
