I think Freepers have been wondering about this for some time. What the hell happened with Ben Stein? Has he always been a closet socialist and is now coming out of the closet?
On Cavuto's program Saturday morning, he states that the government should continually shovel taxpayer money to these business in order to keep people employed. I thought that was bad enough. However, I was truly dismayed when not one dissenter of his statement make the arguement that if government got out of the way, more and more people could get employed.
Hollywood.
He worked for Nixon. (wage &price controls)
enough said?
I’ll bet he’s dating some LIBERAL CHICK....or if he’s married his wife is LIBERAL....OR he thinks it’s CHIC to be seen as a Liberal. He really has turned MEAN.
True conservatives should pretty much throw all of the “right wing” talking heads under the bus.
Save for Anne Coulter, Mark Steyn and maybe a couple of others, they all suck.
The wind changed direction.
1/ He proves how dumb the Hollywood lefties are for including his Herbert Hoover line about the Smoot-Hawley tariffs (when they, courtesy FDR, morphed a recession into the Great Depression, and,
2/ Captured the quintessence of the worst teaching techniques ever captured on film: "Anyone? Anyone?" (Zzzzzzz.) ;o)
That was his father.
Might be just me but I thought he was being sarcastic
Good question. He seems to have been a capitalist as long as the economy was growing. Now that it’s not, he has seemingly become a whiney socialist. Add Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, both of whom are richer than most nations and now demand we poor folk become socialists to salve their greedy consciences. Feh.
I've always thought he was pretty left-leaning, and could never figure out why the Spectator featured him.
I heard him interviewed on talk radio the other night. He said that JJJr. was a ‘stand up guy’. Geesh, Ben!
Putting all this “new”, unearned, unfunded money into the economy is going to have what effect on the value of my dollar?
Did he change the spelling of his name because he suddenly heard “i before e, except after c”?
In many respects Ben is very conservative, but he is a Keynesian economist. Remember Nixon who Ben has said he loved was a Keynesian and they believe government has a place in stimulating and influencing the economy
That is the problem with some businessmen/women who consider themselves Conservatives. They want government to leave them alone, but they want the government to come down on their business 'enemies' and they are willing to sacrifice principles to do it.
Like father, like son. His father, Herbert Stein, was in charge of enforcing wage and price controls under Nixon.
