And Bruce was a historic figure too. Even when he wasn't governor, I remember him coming into the Furr's Cafeteria on Cordova Road in Santa Fe for breakfast or lunch and walking around and greeting patrons, even those he didn't know (but I suspect he got to know them.) They worked hard for the state and not themselves. You can disagree with their politics sometimes, but they were a fine family who had the State's interest at heart. May she rest in peace and warm condolences to Bruce, Gary and the entire family.
Donations in lieu of flowers to The New Mexico Girls Ranch, which Alice King helped to create; the New Mexico Children's Foundation, which she founded; and the Carrie Tingley Hospital Foundation, which she strongly supported.
PING to the NM list, please.
I understand exactly what you mean- great family, and even though I didn’t always agree with the politics I thought Gov. King was a fine governor- just as you said he always thought about the state and the people when making decisions- not himself.
I thought Alice was a fine person and I knew her passion was to help children- not just talk about it like many politicians and their wives do.
Thank you for posting this.
Rest in peace strong lady. Your work on earth is done.
The respect for Alice King cannot be measured, or quantified. She was one hell of a lady, and worked harder for children than any other First Lady.
I have always felt that 'wealth' is not measured by the money you have or the 'legacy' you leave, but by the lives you touch and leaving the world a better place than you found it.
Alice King did those things.
They ended up buying the land for their current location from the former Gov. King.
I'm quite certain that some NM Freepers are members.
