CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP)NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has a simple mantra when it comes to players feeling the need to carry a gun: Avoid those situations.
The real issue to me, is when the players feel theyre unsafe, they shouldnt be there, Goodell said. So get out, dont be there. If you feel the need to have a firearm to be someplace, youre in the wrong place.
Burress was injured in the early morning hours of Nov. 29 when a .40-caliber Glock he was carrying in his waistband slipped down his leg, and as he grabbed at it, he accidentally pulled the trigger and shot himself in the thigh.

Gee, you think?
Well, then they might not be able to visit a lot of friends and relatives
We really have experienced the death of Common Sense.

If you’re going to carry a Glock loose in your pants you might not want to keep a round in the pipe. Or keep your finger off the trigger.
Mr. Goodell is a moron.
Oh, and Plexiglass Burris, or whatecer his name is, is also a moron.
Not really.
This s**thead seems to not know that ‘unsafe things’ can find you also.
This is not necessarily true. Many CCW permit holders would vehemently disagree. If an NFL player wants to carry, no problem w/me, just do it legally (of course in a state like New York it's harder than most places to get a CCW permit)...but if you take the course, get the permit, be certified on the use of the gun you're using, then maybe you won't shoot yourself in the leg.
I have to agree with Goodell. He didn´t say not to carry a gun, he said stay out of situations where you think your safety depends on having a gun with you.
Agreed. You really can't fault Goodell for stating the obvious because a lot of these guys just don't get it.
Aside from the safety concerns, it seems to me if I knew my entire life's income would be received in a 3 1/2 year period I would not want to rock the boat.
"The average length of an NFL career is about 3 and a half seasons. Although there are some exceptional players who have long careers that extend 10 or twelve seasons and beyond, most players only stay active for about three seasons. Players leave the game because of injury, self-induced retirement, or being cut by the team. This also means that while players may make more money than most people, they are only making it for an average of three and a half years"

He said “If you feel the need to have a firearm in someplace, you’re in the wrong place.” Many CCW permit holders carry their fireamrs at all times, does that mean they are constantly going to wrong places, of course not.
Well, you can’t ALWAYS do that.
The Three Stupids Rule:
Don’t
Go to stupid places
With stupid people
Do stupid things
If you follow the Three Stupids Rule, you’re a lot less likely to get killed, or have to kill someone else.
That’s not how I interpreted the comment.
Though I follow the Three Stupids Rule, I still carry a gun. Everywhere I go. Legally.
Agreed. But in many cases this is a matter or choice not need. I have a CCW but I do not feel the need to carry everyplace I go. It is the places they choose to go to that point out a lack of common sense.
I don´t mean to get into semantice, but I think his idea was that they´re going to places where they know they will need a firearm to be safe, as opposed to CCW permit holders who are carrying a firearm because they feel safer with it. And he didn´t say they shouldn´t have firearms, just that they need to think about why they´re going to places.
All citizens who feel capable, should be armed.
