CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — There will be no Christmas trees this year at the two main libraries at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reports trees have been in the lobby of the Wilson and Davis libraries for years.

Michalak said she eliminated the displays after getting questions and complaints from employees and library users about the Christian display.

Political Correctness:
”A doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical liberal minority,
and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media,
which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible
to pick up a turd by the clean end.”

By spreading this definition around, perhaps we can employ one of the more effective methods of deflating and defeating the fools who practice and promote it: RIDICULE.

Unless stopped – and soon – PC will DESTROY Western Civilization — if it hasn’t already.

PASS IT ON!!

(Credit hereby given to my late cousin Karl Benton Clark for either creating this definition or bringing it to my attention

I would have been surprised, no astounded, if they did otherwise. After all, this is Chapel Hill we're talking about.

Excuse me, but I don’t get it...Christmas trees are more of a secular expression rather than a religious one...

Ummm...if the question is tree-worshipping, isn't this discrimination against either the Norse, or the Druids?

To this Jewboy, Christmas is a big part of our culture. I’m going to get myself a tree this year - while I still can.

I’m Southern Baptist, but I’ve always considered getting a menorah to display during Hanukkah. After all, it is part of our religious heritage as well, right?

I’d say it’s Davis since that’s the main.

Maybe another Mohammedan will run some more students down with an evil SUV. Maybe another student body president will be murdered by an oppressed minority member. But we can’t have those bad ole Christmas trees!

Your post piqued my curiosity and I searched the UNC site, but could find no mention of a nativity on campus. Although I’ve been over there hundreds of times I can’t say I’ve ever seen one. Maybe someone else here knows if there’s a display.

If anyone has the urge to write, here’s the particulars:

Sarah Michalak (smichala@email.unc.edu)
Vice Chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little (gray-little@unc.edu)

Ha! I remember back in the ‘78 Helms reelection campaign there was a Helms staffer named Gary Gilbert who referred to Chapel Hill as “Little Moscow”. It was the first time I heard the term.
