Dixie Chicks' lead singer Natalie Maines is being sued for defamation over statements she allegedly made about the stepfather of one of three 8-year-old boys murdered in Crittenden County, Ark. in 1993.
Arkansasbusiness.com reports that a complaint was filed November 25 in Pulaski County Circuit Court by Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of the murdered boys, Steve Branch. The complaint alleges Maines wrongfully made a "false and reckless claim that [Hobbs] committed the murders of the three boys ..."
Steve Branch, Christopher Byers and Michael Moore were found dead May 5, 1993 in a West Memphis, Ark. neighborhood. Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley and Jason Baldwin, all of West Memphis, were convicted of the murders in 1994.
Maines -- identified by her married name, Pasdar, in the lawsuit -- allegedly made the comments during a rally last December on the steps of the Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock.
The lawsuit also claims that Pasdar "recklessly published or caused to be published malicious, libelous, slanderous, and false statements" on the band's website in November 2007.
The lawsuit further claims that the statements were republished by several media outlets, including FOX News, The Memphis Commercial Appeal, and PEOPLE magazine.
The lawsuit seeks undisclosed punitive damages and "all other just and proper relief to which he may be entitled."
The case has attracted national attention, with many claiming insufficient evidence was presented to convict Echols, Misskelley and Baldwin, known as the "West Memphis Three." The controversial trials were the subject of a 1996 documentary film, and a 2000 sequel.
Guilty or not, take her to the cleaners.
Well...on second thought...
A name that will live in infamy.
Natalie sure knows how to use her yap to screw herself up.
BTW.. haven’t heard much from the Ditzy Chicks lately.
Were they out there promoting the Zero One per chance?
I remember during the Bush broughaha that her father remarked she just can’t keep her mouth shut.
Who is Natalie Maines?
Yup. That be her. I love the "fat blonde Dixie PIG" line!!! Marvelous!!! Simply Maarrrrvvvveeellllous!
Yup, Viking, that’s the one. Got a big mouth on her, doesn’t she? Just your typical libtard.
Natalie is an ignorant loudmouth, no surprise she's being sued about something stupid that came out of her liberal pie-hole.
It's breathtaking to see how the Chicks crashed from mega-stardom. If they had just "shut up and sang" they'd have been doing gig's into their 60's.
Foolish women..
Yep, she’s liable. Give the plaintiff all your money and then move to France.
I for one am SHOCKED, SHOCKED I tell ya,,,SHOCKED that good old Nat would say anything nasty about anyone,,,,sheesh, that’s hard to believe...............<...SARCASM OFF....>
Yeah, that’s her. And she also publically dissed the small Texas town she’s from, basically called the people redneck morons.
Would not surprise me if she wind up fat, dumb and broke
“Isn’t she that fat blonde Dixie Pig who alienated three-quarters of their fan base by bashing Dubya?”
I think she is the left wing activist removed from Michael Moore’s gut. Not the Michael Moore referred to in this story but the ugly as hell Michael Moore from Flint, Michigan, that ugly as hell city in Michigan.
Oh yeah, she is fat and ugly and dissed W, a country music fan. Great career instincts also.
He might want to rethink the suit. It is interesting that his DNA was found on one of the victims(or it could have been on a victim’s clothing. I forget exactly where) but the DNA of Miskelly, Echols and/or Baldwin was not found on any of the victims and/or at the crime scene.
Even Steven Branch’s mother believes he is guilty.
Two out of Three is not bad!
correction to the above for clarification.
Even Steve Branch’s mother believes Hobbs is probably guilty. And after years of declaring Echols and the others guilty, Mark Byers (step dad to Christopher Byers) has said he also know believes they are innocent.
