I never said Sam Houston wanted to hang or shoot him did I? On the other hand Sam was a good commander and knew how to squeeze blood or in this case Texas out of a egotistical tyrant with an implied threat. Believe me there were people on that battle field that would have done the deed without much thought other than satisfying pure revenge. When Texans have blood in their eyes, a good commander better be in charge or there will be hell to pay every time.

We stole Texas fair and square when a number of citizens decided that they wanted to be independent of Mexico. Not all that long afterwards, certain southern States of the United States decided that they wanted to be independent of the northern States. This attempt at independence was soundly defeated in one of the bloodiest wars ever fought. As a result, the United States has little to say about attempts by viscious govenments to quash independence movements, e.g. Chechnya.

No problem I Love Texas History.

And really enjoy giving people information on it

When I retire or get laid off from my current employment I am going to either work at the Alamo, Presidio La Bahia or the State Capitol because I enjoy it so much.

California won the war against the spanish and was an independent nation for 3 dys before joining the US.

There weren't mexicans here they were spanish. Any mexicans were the result of spanish screwing the indians.

I agree entirley. The best thing that could ever have happened to the stupid Mexicans is to be one of only two countries in the world to border the United States. Do these idiots ever think of what it would be like today if we had decided to stay in Mexico City 150 years ago?

Mexico and its people are idiots if they think they’ve gained independance from Spain. The day they put one of their own in power and stop speaking a Eurpoean language they’ll be independant. Maybe. Maybe pigs will fly someday too.

Mexico never actually owned Arizona and N.M. except on paper. It was owned by the Apaches until Gen. Crooks campaigns in the early 1870’s and again in the 1880’s. No white people or mexicans would come into Apacheria without risking life and limb. That’s why when your drive across southern Arizona on Interstate 10, about 95% of the towns have english (not spanish) names (i.e., Lordsburg, Bowie, Wilcox, Tombstone, Benson).

You left wing friends are stupid. Texas was an independent nation in 1845 when it was annexed by joint resolution of Congress with the consent of Texicans.

The rest of it was ceded to the USA after Mexico started a war with the USA. Then there was the Gadsden Purchase as well.

Maybe, but the Mexicans stole their land from the Spanish, who originally stole it from the Indians. Tell your liberal idiot friends that when they sort out all the legal issus, come back and continue the discussion.

Sorry. I only learned after many years that the proper word for Alabamans is "Alabamians."

Of course, I'm from Arizona, where we are called "zonies."

Oops. Sorry, I didn't read all.

There is a very good little book by a guy named Ruiz called "The Mexican War" that contains essays arguing both sides of the debate. I think Justin H. Smith's two-volume book, "The Annexation of Texas," is the gold standard, and his essay is in the book.

>>>Alabamians.... zonies>>>>>

Thanks, I didn't know either of those names.

My grandfather born in Texas in 1879, used to talk about the “old Texians” meaning the original settlers. They were a tough bunch as pioneers usually are. I don't know where the word Texican came from, maybe Texans of Mexican descent.

Yes we did and we tried to steal Cuber from Fidel.

But ask your friend the far more important question about stealing peoples earnings to redistribute to those who work less and earn less.

Since the History is covered. I've always liked the song Remember the Alamo from Johnny Cash. "Hey Santa Anna we're killing your soldiers below..." Gotta love it.
