My left-wing radical friend insists we stole all this land from Mexico . Any history buffs out there in Freeperland who can supply some ammo for me ?
BTW the people who say California and the southwest was stolen probably read ‘the peoples history of the united states’ by noted communist Howard Zinn . Zinn has used taxpayer money in the most corrupt and cynical way to foment the overthrow of the US government and besmear America and Americans.
Yes, we took those states from Mexico, as the Mexicans took their land from Spain before that, and Spain took land from the Aztecs and Maya before that, and the Aztecs took land from the Toltecs, and the Maya took land from the Olmecs and Zapotecs before that, and on and on and on. This has been the way of mankind from the beginning. Tell you friend,”Yes, it’s true. Too bad, get over it.”
All your taco stands are belong to us.
You said — “Santa Anna traded Texas off to save his sorry butt from Texian firing squad or worse ,after he was caught in a womans dress trying to escape the fight at San Jacinto....”
Sam Houston was never going to put Santa Anna in front of a firing squad. History tells us that was *never* the intention of Sam Houston, and so that would not have happened in any case. You see..., Santa Anna was about 100 times more valuable *alive* than he *ever* would have been “dead” — because Santa Anna was *also* President of Mexico and had the authority to conclude such an agreement — a very good reason to keep him alive... LOL...
If you want to know how I feel about this (and others) issue; please read my tag line.
I wish Bush would march the army down South and take Baja before he leaves office. We could call it New Bushland. There is plenty of time left to do it and we need lots more beach condo space and places to fish.
Who would stop us there, huh?
Putin would be enraged and perhaps murder a few journalists in his rage. Hugo Chavez’ veins on his face would approach the bursting point and a few peasants nearby would mysteriously disappear. And the Libs heads would explode. Other than that, there would be little reaction.
I was going to write that the cities of Scottsdale,AZ and Winfield, KS were both named for this individual, but a quick search showed that it was an entirely different Winfield Scott that they were named for.
Never mind.
Don’t forget France. They managed to rule part of Mexico for a while as did the Dutch if I remember correctly.
New Spain stole it from Old Spain... who stole it from native Americans. Thus, Mexico was born. From there, it was purchased by USA.
Sounds good to me. Let’s roll.
2. Arizona, California, and New Mexico were spoils of war after Mexican soldiers killed Americans north of the Rio Grande (after Texas became a state in 1844). Mexicans were clearly in violation of the border; had been warned; and were so pompous and arrogant that they thought they would be in New Orleans in two weeks. Santa Anna promised to march through Washington.
Tell your friend to read something besides Howard Zinn's leftist tripe.
the arabs, africans, d and other countries ran the slave trade in africa
I’m right there with you, Mac. And I live here in southern California, so I’ve seen enough of this mess out here. Illegal immigration is just another national issue that everyone dances around, no one willing to tell the truth for fear of being labeled a racist, or some other kind of ‘basher’. Well, screw them, I couldn’t care less and their name-calling has run its course. And the more people in our country who say ‘screw it’, the better off we’ll be.

Thanks for the history lesson guys and gals . I knew I could count on Freepers to come through . I have sent a long email to my buddy . Can’t wait to read his reply !
My best to you all !
Yes, in exactly the same way the Mexicans stole it from the Indians, who stole it from different Indians....
Why choose this particular change of ownership to start trying to apply that kind of logic? Do your friends want to roll back all the boundaries of European and Asian countries to the middle ages? If so, why stop there? Why not even earlier?
You can not argue with these people. I always say ; “ your right, Let’s give it back to the native Americans and let them vote if they want to be part of the US or Mexico.”
