LANCASTER [CALIFORNIA} - County Animal Control officers have concluded a two-month effort to crack down on pit bulls, an effort that led to nearly 100 citations and the rounding up of more than 150 canines. The crackdown was initiated in September by Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, whose 5th District includes the Antelope Valley.

Antonovich was responding to complaints raised by the City Council concerning the number of pit bull-related injuries in Lancaster.

Councilmembers were advised Nov. 12 that county Animal Control officers had raided 42 illegal kennels, investigated 87 pit bull owners for possible inhumane treatment, investigated 118 dogs in possession of "owners at large," researched ownership of 165 dogs and impounded 163 pit bulls found running loose in the city.

Officers ultimately issued 95 citations for alleged ownership violations, said Derek Brown, deputy director of shelter operations for the county's Department of Animal Care and Control.

During the crackdown, officers patrolled city parks, searched abandoned houses and worked with bus, school and Postal Service officials to locate potentially dangerous pit bulls, Brown said.

Since councilmembers voiced their concerns, Animal Control officers "have been working diligently to focus on problems relating to pit bulls," he said.

While sweeping the city for that particular breed, the officers found and investigated problems related to other dangerous breeds, Brown said.

Some owners were given warnings, others were given citations and some dogs were impounded, which further reduced the risk of dog attacks in the community, he said.

To avoid future attacks, the department embarked on a program through which residents could alert officers to locations that posed potential dog-related problems.

"And what if someone doesn't want to own a gun? I don't own a gun. I have lousy vision and arthritic hands. I'm more likely to shoot a bystander than a moving target."

Maybe a can of gasoline and a fireplace lighter will work.

...12 ga., pistol grip, slugs (remote area). After a few thousand loads, it's pretty easy and quick to hit with. ...00 buck, low recoil loads, keeping fire low for more densely populated areas.

You're shooting slugs from a 12ga pistol-gripped shotgun at "dangerous" dogs? you're full of crap, just as I suspected. What's your typical stand-off distance? Are these dangerous dogs charging you, or coming looking for a treat?

Limit yourself, if you like. Bullies don't want to know that such things can be consistently done. And you might want to avoid bear country nowadays.

LOL, I shoot a thousand "loads" in a week (don't tell my wife). I'm not a country bar cage fighter, but I train with guys kicking in doors in Al Anbar. I know what you can do with a pistol gripped 12ga. Hitting "dangerous" dogs with slugs?

You amuse me.

Held hostage by pitbulls my hairy patoot. Attempt at DRAMA QUEEN is what I see here. FEH!

LOL, to listen to these people, one has to imagine that their existence is some horrible prehistoric fight to the death battle with roaming predators and their evil dastardly human masters.

And yet, they stay where they are.

Posted too soon, but to add that I had an evil pit bull IN MY OWN HOME and didn't have to endure any tiny percentage of the horror these poor souls have suffered through.

He is quite disturbed, judging by his postings here.

Boogie dog paranoia, an obsession with meth labs and 380lb lesbians will do that to you.
I've been putting together a little collection of his "wisdom"...

...oughtta legalize hunting seasons for zombies' dogs--even for urban areas. I would put up a little share of a bounty.

little people, who’ve been mesmerized and thrilled by the “power” of pit-bull-like dogs to murder children and old folks.

owners of pit bull type dogs get those dogs for the purpose of making others afraid

Owners of the monsters are criminals

Let’s rid the face of the earth of those dogs and their variations, before they get rid of our loved ones.

pit bull owners who are left-leaning undesirables and inbreeds

It's only a matter of more attacks and time before we're rid of the favorite tool of cowardly troublemakers.

popular choice of criminals and kooks.

dogs should have been killed on first sight, before they even threatened anyone

owners of pit-bull-like dogs devised their own reputation for being trashy or incompetent. They should be blacklisted.

Pit bull worshipers state in the usual slippery language that the father of the child forced the dog to attack.

Maybe a can of gasoline and a fireplace lighter will work.

Only trashy people would have a problem with it.

pit bull fans tend to use arguments very similar to those used by PETA members.

Pit bull zombies

killing pit bulls is cheap and therapeutic....Our Nation's founding fathers hung sodomites.

It's my party, and I'll kill pit bulls, if I want to.

We're conservatives--not pimps, pushers or calculating breeders of monsters.

pit bull owners typically get their beasts for the purpose of making their neighbors fear for their families' lives.

Zombies would rather take their chances on imprisonment than give up their meth lab security.

pit bull owners have been obvious in their intent to disarm anyone who would defend themselves or others against the dogs. I reiterate their desire to scare others and cowardice against trying to do it themselves.

We need a legal, year-round hunting season for pit bulls and meth zombies, IMO, with no fee and no bag limit. all pit bulls should be exterminated

Criminal-minded people have pit bulls for scaring their neighbors and scoff at probable consequences.

Pit bulls were bred specifically to "snap and attack."

continue to make your own choices on feeding defenseless people to dogs

- And the #1 comment I personally find offensive...."I’m related to Canadians."

It's too bad he's so far off the deep end, some of his ideas are good and worthy of discussion, such as people being able to walk past a house and not feel afraid, and how dogs running loose is unacceptable. It's just, sadly, impossible to have a rational conversation with a raving lunatic.
