You need to buy an antivirus... symantec, mcafee, etc. then also go to www.lavasoft.com and download free adaware, its an incredibly effective adware remover that finds things antivirus programs don't (and is pretty good at running even in compromised environments). But run the antivirus first.

Sorry for your problems, been there, not fun.

1). reformat the thing.
2). Re-install all software
3). purchase drive imaging software
4). Create image for use the next time you screw your system.

When you turn on your computer, hold down the F8 key to get into safe mode. One there, use the system restore to set your computer back to a date prior to your problems. Then reboot and load on some good anti-spyware scrubbing software.

The program you downloaded may have come from a cracked version. Like all good hackers...they will place a trojan or several in the serial key generator that comes with cracked software.

I’m no techie but I’ve found that by simply Googling an error code I often get useful advice online. This is what another user was advised on a Yahoo forum:

Do a windows system repair.

Restart the computer with the windows operating disk in the cd rom. When it says “press any keey to boot from cdrom” do so. It will get to a screen that says “ To setup Windows XP now, press ENTER” highlight that option and press enter.

It will ask you to accept the license agreement by pressing F8. Do so and then it will list your o/s choices that already exist on the computer. Highlight your windows installation and then press the “R” key.

Then let windows do its thing. It will look like it is doing everything from scratch, but it is just repairing the system. Make sure you have your license key because during the setup it will ask for it. The system will reboot 1 or 2 times during the process. When all is done you should have everything you started with file wise and hopefullty your stop error will be corrected.

How to boot from cd rom:

Try post # 10. And when you run your whatever flavor of antivirus, update your definitions at least once a day. I run AVG, and haven’t been bugged in 10+ years. Yeah I do visit goofball sites as well.

Burn it. Roll it in some zigzags and burn it.

No, seriously, you have Malware. You need to wipe or Fdisk your system and reinstall everything. Your BIOS are fine. So, Wipe it, install it and stop stealing software.

It sounds like you need professional help. Know any teenagers who like pizza? :)

At this point, I think I would consider whether or not there was anything on your hard drive that you couldn't live without. If not, reformat the drive and reinstall everything from scratch.

If there are files you need to get off, you have some options. You could take it to a repair shop. They deal with this stuff all the time. If it was my computer I would get a new hard drive, install Windows XP on it along with a good anti virus package. Then, I'd install the old hard drive in the machine and do virus/malware scans to clean it up before getting the files off of it. Lastly I would reformat the original hard drive to ensure all the nasties are gone.

I would recommend you reboot in safe mode with command prompt. Then go to C:\windows\system32\restore.

You can then launch rstui.exe and restore back to the last good date you have. You will lose anything that has been modified since the date you restore to, since it is doing a disk restore. But that should get your system back.

Reinstall

If you want any files, use a a Knoppix to get it off to a USB Stick

Don’t try to start it up anymore

You are only making it worse.

My husband is an IT for 3 companies. He says go to trendmicro.com then click on house call in lower right corner, allow it to install java program and follow remaining instructions to run it. This should clean your computer, then follow up with adaware (get professional version), Mcafee

P.S. Only install only ONE anti virus software because if you have two, one will suspect the other.

yeah yer going to have to format. that virus deeply embeds itself so badly, you most likely have many new .exe files in /windows/system32 (if you sorted by date you could spot them) and many new prefetch entries as files and in the registry.

Like many have said here, formatting is your best bet.. I use kaspersky internet security, it asks for permission for any application so if anything looks fishy i deny it access. Setup.exe is fine from the programs install, but 20 .bat files arent’.

Also a handy utility many might want to keep on hand if they can catch this one early is “Combofix”. If you see your pc going into the cmd prompt then it’s almost too late.. bootup into safe mode, run combofix (i’ll usually run it twice to ensure it’s clean) then you should be ok..a lot of virus prog’s don’t even recognize this crazy mother. (Also look into the standalone Vundo fixers)

But, for now you better simply put that windows cd in, do a clean install..

good luck.

If you can access the Internet on that system go to Download.com and get AVG (free edition), MalWareBytes and Spy bot. Run those 3 don't buy the upgrades as you don't need to the free editions are enough. Stay away from Norton and McAfee as Norton is the worst possible protection you could install with McAfee being the 2nd worst. Update all 3 of the above and turn off system restore, disable or pull your network access and scan your system in all accounts you have and then in SAFE mode, again with all 3. That should get you to a more stable system unless the virus infestation have really torn out the OS system files.
