I don't post often, can't remember my last and I certainly cannot remember my last vanity, so I guess I'm entitled to one every couple of years.
It is not uncommon for a departing Freeper to post an Opus listing all their grievances with the forum. Today I want to post my anti-opus for lack of better term.
Today marks my ten year anniversary on FreeRepublic.
First off, I'd like to thank Jim Robinson and his crew for the fantastic job they've done with this forum and how it has changed and improved from the early AOL days.
Yes, it was the White Water threads that got me hooked and I lurked for months before joining. (Back then it seemed protocol to lurk or stay quiet on a forum or site until you learned about the site; it was considered bad form to sign up and start posting the same day.)I was a regular on the Michael Reagan site before finding FR.
It was the March for Freedom that got me to sign up and I did it while watching it on tv. I saw the unabashed patriotism and love for country and knew I wanted to be associated with that group even if they were the last patriots in the country.
Again, thank you Jim for your courage and inspiration.
In the last 10 years we've been through WhiteWater, Arkancides and Alamo-Girl's research; the Impeachment saga which really soured my views on incumbent politicians on both sides of the aisle; the Million Mom March with the counter march of the Second Amendment Sisters that eventually put the MMM out of business; we've seen elections and the debacle on the Bush-Algore election where I got to meet Freepers in Tallahassee, FL protesting the court allowed selective recounts; later got a person front row seat to some of the action in Iraq while working for and alongside our fantastic troops.
We've been through Ash Alerts, Michaeal Rivero theories, Jack Thompson, Anti-Freepers, DU, DITHF, Classy Green-eyed blond, and a host of other famous/infamous distractions.
And yes, I've been a participant in countless WOD threads and even had my hands slapped a couple times! (Thank you Mods for the slack you cut me and I sincerely try not to abuse it!)
I've had the pleasure to meet a handful of Freepers in person and can't think fo finer people anywhere. My only regret on that is that I have ONLY met a handful of Freepers face to face...and will have to meet more in the future.
FR is my home on the web, almost always running in the background.
FR is a place where the mods do a find job of keeping it clean and respectible; a place you can send your friends and family to without fear of uncontrolled crassness and vulgarity. Except for the school boy scores with teacher threads...but only when the teacher is Not Guilty!
But really nothing is better than the gun porn threads on the banglist.
FR is a place to get credible information that can be substantiated, not just a collection of rumors and speculation. Again, the mods and fellow Freepers help keep posters honest and credible.
In closing I just want to again say thanks to Jim and the Mods and to my fellow Freepers with whom I've had the pleasure of exchanging smart a$$ comments, some insults and sarcastic remarks, as well as interesting and engaging debates and discussions.
Thanks FreeRepublic and tonight I hope y'all will join me in a toast for ten more years of Free Republic in a free republic!
Happy FReeper Anniversary!
Yeah! What HE said!
In fact, that goes DOUBLE for me!
Thanks Jim!
If I confess that I have reloaded ammo and just recently uncovered a box of old gas masks and filters would that give you any hints? LOL...
Thanks!
You buy property over there yet?
Or are ya gonna meet a nice local boy and settle down?
Happy Anniversary noob... :-)
Nice post, for a noob. :)
Here’s to 10 more!
Thank you for your service.
I think every ten years I should remind this crew that Havisham is NOT a guy. Always here, Cynthia
Happy Anniversary NewBie ... ! ;>)
Happy FReepavesary!!!
Back then there was the novelty of sharing current event and political information via the world wide web on dial up systems so slow that many people now could not imagine how gratifying it was to see a page load!
And back then we never imagined the impact that internet based information sharing would have on the world.
It is a different world today and FR and JimRob have helped initiate that change.
Great minds...
but ...
ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US!!!
He promised to shoot his mocking polly brother-in-law too!
Ten plus years of freeping gives us great minds... :-)
LOL! (and I mean it...almost snorted out loud!)
Just because ya been here longer than me don’t mean....yada yada yada!
Happy Anniversary - I’ve been here since March, ‘98 (I think). For a a few years, I didn’t post very much - but recently - I’ve been active on FR again.
Your "homepage" lists you as being in TX. Have you moved?
Hey, congrats! My 10-year anniversary is coming in 3 days! We’re practically FR twins. :)
