The Stink in Farts Controls Blood Pressure

A smelly rotten-egg gas in farts controls blood pressure in mice, a new study finds.
The unpleasant aroma of the gas, called hydrogen sulfide (H2S), can be a little too familiar, as it is expelled by bacteria living in the human colon and eventually makes its way, well, out.
The new research found that cells lining mice's blood vessels naturally make the gas and this action can help keep the rodents' blood pressure low by relaxing the blood vessels to prevent hypertension (high blood pressure). This gas is "no doubt" produced in cells lining human blood vessels too, the researchers said.
"Now that we know hydrogen sulfide's role in regulating blood pressure, it may be possible to design drug therapies that enhance its formation as an alternative to the current methods of treatment for hypertension," said Johns Hopkins neuroscientist Solomon H. Snyder, M.D., a co-author of the study detailed in the Oct. 24th issue of the journal Science.
The research was supported by grants from the U.S. Public Health Service and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research as well as a Research Scientist Award.

No wonder most politicians live so long....
WOOO HOOOO!!!!!!!!
Ping
My co-workers will declare I should be in good health then.
I need to print a copy for my GF and kids.
Your 4-legged babester should be well protected against high blood pressure ;~)
I don’t care if it will make me live forever, I’m not swallowing a pill that smells like a fart.
I declare that my husband is in very good health as well!
i just emailed it to my bro and said, well now we know why you have no BP problems... ; )
Farts stink so deaf people can enjoy them too. :-)
I always told my wife that if I held my farts in that it would make my breath stink.
She never bought that idea.
Maybe I will try the blood pressure control angle.
I’d recommend a colon cleanse. Something’s just not right down there.
My younger dog (85 lb. & half Pit and half Black Lab), who regularly gets under my desk and farts, must be in excellent health.
Farts can lower and increase blood pressure. If a fart occurs and you did it, pressure down. If it's the Neanderthal across from you on the Metro train, pressure up.
This is classic ! Well, let it rip away, for good health of course !
Does this mean Beano should be banned?
You can cancel your next Vet’s appointment.
