This is somewhat said tongue in cheek but.......
The old media has become fragmented. The evening network news no longer is the place many people who want to be informed about the days events go for their information. Now there are several 24 hour news stations proving an ever expanding groups of voices to argue the events and positions of the day.
But there was a time in the not so distant past when conservatives had the edge in talk radio to guide elections and public opinion. Does that still stand?
Consider that just in the last year the most successful, most listened to and most influential host, Rush Limbaugh, actively used his show to influence outcomes of various issues of the day and here are the results.
Firs, he actively used his show to stop the nomination of Senator John McCain during the 2008 presidential primary. McCain is now the nominated candidate.
He actively encouraged screwing with the democratic primary process by encouraging listeners to vote for Senator Clinton. Even if he didn't prevail with her nomination, the thought was Obama would emerge a severely weakened candidate. While there was some evidence of republicans crossing over and voting for Clinton, the best result he got extending the primary process. Clinton was not selected and Obama was not left severely bloodied and reeling from the attempt.
He has always been adamantly against government intervention in "too big to fail businesses", yet there were several loans, increased money supply, government ownership of private business and a bailout that were implemented despite his efforts.
If things hold as they appear to be, a democrat will be elected to the White House.
The House and Senate likely will pick up seats and there is even the possibility that the Senate may be filibuster proof.
I guess I no longer see the democrats concern. The main targets of the Fairness Doctrine no longer seem to hold the influence the democrats want to so badly level.
Do democrats really need to be concerned with a fairness doctrine when so much of their agenda is being implemented without it?
No the Democrats don’t need the Fairness doctrine, but they will want it to silence their critics. When the first bailout bill was announced it was conservative talk radio that got the voters to call in. They don’t want you to know what they are doing! That way they can sneak things through. Who is going to challenge them MSM? I doubt it! Conservative Talk radio keeps them honest!
It is no longer to be refer to as the “fairness doctrine”.
It is “The Censorship Doctrine”
Please have the mod change your title accordingly.
It is time that we stop having the Leftist define the terms.
