"Punk Rock Republicans" POSTED BY MEGHAN

I am often asked what my favorite band of all time is, and for me it is an incredibly difficult decision - almost impossible. However, if I had to pick a band, it would probably be The Ramones. I have been a fan since around sixth grade when I first heard the song "I Want To Be Sedated" on the radio and was immediately hooked (I even had my first kiss while "Beat on the Brat" was playing in the background). The power, impact and influence of possibly the greatest band of all time and the inventors of punk rock is absolutely endless and infinitely spanning.

It is my great honor to announce that Linda Ramone, the wife of the late legend Johnny Ramone will be joining me to campaign for my father in Nevada on Monday and Tuesday. I couldn't be more excited and humbled if Elvis himself came out on the road with me. Looking forward to sharing with you what its like to campaign with a legend!

it's too bad too many punks are confused and support leftists such as Fugazi. But there are a few punks who see conservatism (ie classical liberalism not today's liberalism) as really a punk idea like me! Bad joke but I wonder if the Viet Cong played "Beat on the Brat" when visiting John? :P

In ‘76 the Ramones played their first gig outside of New York in my hometown of Madison, WI at the El Tejon (the Badger) bar, and although I was just sixteen I got in to the show and slam danced with maybe 10 people - the rest (maybe another 30) were too shocked to join in, had never seen anything like it. I moved to LA and hung at the Whiskey during the whole punk era (which was much shorter-lived than most people guess). Maybe someone remembers the old Iggy Pop (post Stooges) classic “I’m a Conservative” which set the tone for my ahem “anti-hippy” personality. Iggy once famously declared (without much irony) in an interview circa 1981 “The two greatest Americans are Ronald Reagan and Mr.Rogers.”

Darn Right!

Stiv Bators was known to hijack the stage when others were playing. He did it to a Friends band (Lazer) at the Youngstown Agora. The guy was a hoot! We let him go!

I see from your profile that you like P.J. O’Rourke. Considering you like him and the Ramones, you’ve got some good taste!

Ramones = Greatest Rock and Roll band ever. They put the fun back in the music when it was dominated by pretentious Brit prog rock/blues jam bans.

When the Ramones were inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of fame, he thanked president Bush for all he had done to protect our nation after 9-11!

Now that is punk rock!

I hear ya!

What's funny is that it really is more rebellious to be conservative.

One of my personal faves:

No folks, that is NOT Tom Petty, it is Johnny Thunders (RIP).

Ping list for the discussion of the politics and social (and sometimes nostalgic) aspects that directly effects Generation Reagan / Generation-X (Those born from 1965-1981) including all the spending previous generations are doing that Gen-X and Y will end up paying for.

I don’t know about ever. Heck, I wouldn’t even say they’re the best punk band ever. But they’re pretty damn good. From a musical standpoint, unfortunately, some really good punk bands are leftists. But I’m smart enough to know better than to take advice from musicians.

I’ve always been a punk and always will be. Even in a suit and tie sometimes that look comes across my face and the people I work with realize there’s something different there.
