Shaking its tail feathers (There’s a new dinosaur at the base of the bird family tree.)

There’s a new dinosaur at the base of the bird family tree. It lived between 152 million and 168 million years ago in what is now northern China. A previously unseen type of feather covered the body and limbs of this pigeon-sized creature, says Fucheng Zhang of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology in Beijing. Those structures were too short and of the wrong design to have functioned as flight feathers, he says. The creature also sported four long, ribbon-like feathers on its tail, Zhang and his colleagues report in the Oct. 23 Nature.

Couldn't have. Earth is less than 10,000 years old.

Quite a bizarre looking animal, like a hybrid of a chipmunk, parrot, raptor and God knows what else:

Ahhh. Finally. An evolution/creationism thread to get away from those contentious election threads.

True, but those are God-years, which consist of God-days like those in Genesis. Ask evangelicals about those days and you will likely be told that they are actually "ages" and not days in the literal sense. In other words, the world may be 10,000 God-years old (most say 6000), but due to the fungibility of the Genesis definition of "day", that can be any length of real time including 15 billion ordinary years.

Non-functioning structures give exactly what “evolutionary advantage”?

That depends on the structure, but usually they allow individuals to find mates, much like a peacock's tail.

Yes, interesting artist's rendering. I googled the web and couldn't find a picture of the actual fossil. Do you have any links?

No. And I too get a kick out of these guys creating images out of next to nothing.

I love that it’s “pigeon-sized.” You get this artist’s rendering of a terrifying, vicious predator, and then you read on and discover it’s only 6 inches tall.

I thought Ken Hamm represented the evangelical position. Days are days as in 24 hours.
