Star Trek legend William Shatner has launched an astonishing attack on former co-star George Takei, calling him "sick" and "psychotic".
In an internet video clip the former Captain Kirk said nobody cared when Takei, who played Mr Sulu in the sci-fi series, finally came out as gay in 2005.
Shatner launched the attack after Takei announced that Shatner would not be invited to his gay wedding last month.
Takei has admitted harbouring ill-feelings towards his former co-star, who, he claims has a huge ego and hogged the limelight while on Star Trek.
Shatner says in the video: "The whole thing makes me feel badly, poor man. There is such a sickness there.
(snip)
But he has continued to speak badly about me for all these years. Obviously, hiding his homosexuality - talk about festering and not living the truth of your life and feeling badly about yourself - and being fearful somebody would find out about this terrible, terrible secret, so he thought.
"Finally at the age of, I think, 70, he decides to come out of the closet and say, "I'm gay".
"Like, who cares? Be gay. Don't be gay. That's up to you George."
(snip)
"I presume he can remember all these terrible thing I must have done when I said 'Hello' or something to him.
"You would think he had this epiphany and say - because he and I don't have many years left in this world - 'I wish him well. I'm so happy that I wish him well'.
"But instead what he does is he makes this big deal about not inviting me to his wedding.
(snip)
"It's sad. I feel nothing but pity for him."

The MIL of a friend of mine used to talk about having fairies living in her basement. She even said it to her son & his boyfriend. I get the impression that they thought it was as funny as she did.
You make a very good point. I don’t think there were any residuals in those days. But the fact that the series did so well in reruns, lead to the movies. And as a supporting actor, I’d feel pretty good about Shatner for giving some movie roles, a nice pay check. And a bit of fame I couldn’t achieve on my own.
I vaguely remember him, he became COS around late 81 or early 82? My memory just isn’t what it used to be :)
That’s cute. LOL
Yattah, yattah, yattah.. Oops! that was a different TV show!
And people always think I'm joking when I tell them that the single from that album, "Common People" is one of the best songs of the decade. But it is.
Here's a video of it, with Ben Folds on keyboards and Joe Jackson singing with Shatner. It seriously kicks ass.
Yep. And, they really were living in her basement. You were given a hint by the subject we were talking about. First time I heard her say it, it was like,.... what? After the brain gears processed it all, yeah, it's cute & funny.
BWAhahahahahahahahahaha......
“Aye, Captain...there are Klingons around Uranus.”
I can’t hear the work “Uranus” without laughing any more. It’s not that I’m juvenile,it’s just that every joke I ever heard with “Uranus” as the punch line flashes through my mind.
LOL
(I will be away for awhile due to cleaning the coffee spew on my screen and keyboard).
Great album. It's hard to tell how much is the real Shatner, how much is the role he likes to play, and how much is the creation of the songwriters.
LOL!!! Great link. Thanks for the laugh! “:^)
I think Koenig did a good job as Bester in B5.
I got to the "G" Staff in January '83 and he was the G3 then. By summer he was COS and by Fall, he'd taken over the 3rd Bde as the commander. I ets'd in April of 1984.
George is not the first former Star Trek actor to mention that Shatner had a huge ego and was unbearable to others,
My favorite was Walter Koenig on Coast to Coast AM a few years ago. I think George Noory was the host. George asked him how it was working with the cast and he said "Read between the lines", then talked about how wonderful everyone was, leaving Shatner out of the list. When George asked "What about Shatner?", Koenig replied "I said 'Read between the lines'".
Well then.. now we know why Takei was never green lighted on his captain sulu series
AND
why they went out of their way to have Sulu’s daughter and to point out that sulu had married. (well then it could only have been written as a woman spouse)
Shatner has every right to fire back if takei is going to attack him.
Unbearable people with huge egos that annoy others rarely recognize that quality in themselves - only in others who do the same. Ironic, isn’t it?
Set phasers to FABULOUS!
