When Alternate Theories Don´t Make For Good School Work
Amrican Chronicle ^ | October 18, 2008 | Richard L. Cravatts Ph.D.

"Our creationist detractors charge that evolution is an unproved and unprovable charade," wrote the brilliant paleontologist and Harvard professor, Stephen Jay Gould, "a secular religion masquerading as science." Signaling that those charges are still part of a contentious discussion about the origins of life, and how faith and science can coexist, even rabbis have come forward to lend their support to a continuation of the teaching of evolution and a resistance to pressure for public schools to question the validity of Darwinian theory and open the door to teaching alternate explanations of biological development—most specifically, the concept of "intelligent design."

In Chicago suburb of Deerfield, for instance, Rabbi David Oler of Congregation Beth Or this summer drafted an open letter, signed by over 200 national Jewish leaders, that affirmed their support for the teaching of evolution.

han a bill forcing honorable teachers to sully their sacred trust by granting equal treatment to a doctrine not only known to be false,

one very good reason not to allow Marxism or Marxists (like Ayers) in the classroom either?

Well if the rabbis are for teaching evolution then the matter’s settled, isn’t it? Here’s some more guidance from rabbis:

“More than 300 rabbis from across the country and across the denominations are publicly backing Barack Obama for president. According to a press release, Rabbis for Obama is a “grassroots effort” founded by two rabbis from Obama’s home state of Illinois, Rabbi Sam Gordon of Wilmette, and Rabbi Steven Bob of Glen Ellyn, and includes prominent figures such as University of Judaism rector Rabbi Elliot Dorf, former Central Conference of American Rabbis president Rabbi Janet Marder and Rabbi Burton Visotzky, professor at the Jewish Theological Seminary. Also on the list, named as one of the organization’s vice chairs, is Rabbi Ethan Tucker — stepson of the head of the honorary Senate rabbis for McCain, Joe Lieberman.” (rabbisforobama.com)

The Catholic Church, the Anglicans, and the Methodists also see evolution as consistent with their faith. Why pick on the Jews?

They may also see human induced global warming as a critical problem but so what? Is truth decided by consensus now?

“Why pick on the Jews?” You brought their opinions up, I just pointed out they have opinions on lots of things and the 200 rabbis don’t speak for all Jews.
