It is that question, Hugh Newsom testified Wednesday, that he cries out every day since his son and his son’s girlfriend were slain in a carjacking turned torture slaying.

U.S. District Judge Tom Varlan did not have an answer, but for the families of the slain couple he did serve up the dish they sought — the toughest penalty allowed by federal law for Eric Dewayne “E” Boyd, whom a jury concluded earlier this year helped hide out slaying suspect Lemaricus Davidson.
“The underlying crimes were unquestionably horrific in nature … and will long be felt by the families of Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom as well as this community,” Varlan said in slapping Boyd with an 18-year prison term. “Clearly, Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom touched many lives, especially young people.”
What Varlan did Wednesday was as bold as it is rare. Federal judges rarely impose maximum, consecutive sentencing.

Christian, 21, and Christopher Newsom, 23, were carjacked from a Northwest Knoxville apartment complex in January 2007, held hostage inside a house on Chipman Street and then raped, beaten and tortured. Newsom was bound and shot execution style before his body was set afire. Christian was hog-tied and stuffed alive inside a trash can, where she slowly suffocated.
Davidson, his brother, a friend and his brother’s girlfriend are charged in Knox County Criminal Court with those slayings. Boyd was convicted as an accessory in federal court.

Compare media outrage over these Knoxville murders with "outrage" over the Duke Lacrosse case.

If this case doesn’t show the incredible media bias on race then nothing else will.
They’re nothing but a bunch of cowards, the media and the politicians. We’ve lost the PR/fairness battle to the PC crowd and we see it manifest its ugly head in so many cases, including elections. Everything’s racist to the PCers and the more they get away with that, the worse they get.
It seems to me that this sort of torture-murder is a staple of post-colonial civil wars in Africa.

I’m glad this thug is going away for awhile. I remember that the cretin who ran into a man on the street and had him stuck in her windshield for several days invited her friends to come see him. One of them actually did have some decency and reported the crime. The others, like this thug, seem to have regarded it as just another day in the hood.

More recently, look at the so-called Jena 6. Why did that get so much attention? Thousands of people marching on the town is why. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, but political correctness prevents squeaking in this case. Kind of like the ‘Asian youth’ syndrome in UK. Can’t offend the perps by being offended by the perps. It would be racist, don’t ya know? Frankly, as long as they fry the b@stards that did it, there’s not much more to do.

When the thugs define what they believe is reasonable torture to innocents, we have the ability to define that as their reasonable punishment for the instigators.

Per both victims families, there was no mutilation of the bodies as you described. It was a terrible crime, true, but trying to whip up the populace by propagating inaccurate information is no good. People should be horrified enough by what did happen.

Sorry to disgust you. I was going by what the families had said here on local television. I guess it’s possible they were lying about it.
