I already have two cats. A very old arthritic one and a recent addition just turned one.
But these renters turned their cat, a gray white pawed female out into the yard and said they didn't want it anymore.
They moved out with a great deal of coaxing from my lawyer owing me 2086.00 and leaving me with the cat. At first I did not want it because it tried to bite me HARD when I touched its back.
Then it disappeared for 8 days and showed up today quite hungry. So next door neighbor put it in a carrier and fed it and called me. Come and get it.
It wants to move back into the apartment we are trying to restore to livable conditions. So....I let it back in, fed it and fixed a litter box. It crawled up on my chest and began to purr.
Now mind you I am sitting on the very nasty sofa they left sitting on the stained rug and the carpenter is trying to remove the punched out sheets of paneling.
Now when I touched that hip area again she bit me. I think she is injured. When I first went into the apartment after they had left I found her crouched in a closet, but she came to me when I called for her.
Naturally, I raced her to the vet only to find they had closed 20 minutes before.
When we watch her walk, she will take a couple of steps and then stretch one or both hind legs.
Does anyone have any ideas. I found the vet secretary on the street and she said they may not be able to see her tomorrow.
I'm the one that found Gardenia only to have her die at the vets, then I found another kitten and scheduled to pick her up on Monday when the vet was open, and she drownd in a horse trough on Sunday afternoon.
I know there are kitty people out there....meow, meow.

A good vet will see a critter on emergency basis. It costs more.

Oh gosh, I hope she doesn’t have a tumor.
Had mine for sixteen years,she developed what you are describing at about 13 years.
Vet had no answer,she died of renal failure at 16.
Seconded — the most important thing is that she is using the litter box.
Get her to the vet for a good once-over when you get a chance. But you may find that she, as with many cats, just doesn’t like to be touched in certain places. One of my cats loves attention but will go psycho if you try to touch his feet.
Could she have been kicked? :(
One of our cats had a urinary infection and was sensitive on the lower back (and would bite because it hurt if you touched it). With a pill and a little better diet she cleared right up.
If kitty is eating, drinking and using the litter box, that’s good. She may have been abused by the deadbeats or been hurt during her days away. As soon as you can get her to the vet, the better. Poor kitty - I just don’t understand how people can abandon pets. She sounds like she would appreciate a loving home.
I’m a cat lover too, I’d try my best to get her into the vets, that’s the best I can offer without me seeing her. I just lost one of my cats last wee, Pixie, she was 16, a black cat. She had a high thyroid and anemia from fleas, they have been bad this year but the vet suspected she could have had other things wrong with her. I know otherwise I think we could have pulled her out of it if it was just those two things but we could not. I still have 4 cats left, the most I had at one time was 9.
Might just be a trust issue. Some cats don't like unsolicited touching in some areas. So don't like being touched at all in some areas.
Might be something else entirely.
But I concur with the previous advice.
If teh kitteh’s is eating and eliminating it's very unlikely you are facing a time critical issue. As for being a crazy cat person, call me when you top seven cats and five skunks in your home.

My cat is real sick. He has lung cancer and is getting chemo. He had an ultrasound and a needle biopsy and his cancer was confirmed. I just want to be as good a friend to him at this time as he has been to me for the last 16 years. So as long as he is comfortable (smiling, social, sleeping on his side instead of the Sphinx position which indicates distress), I’ll do what I can.
With a cat, its all up to us. We can’t ask their opinion so their life is in our hands and we have to remember that.

Cooper is a really nice cat that likes to be petted but my niece warned me about touching his hind quarters because she said he will turn vicious and bite...........
That is strictly a normal reaction to protect himself from presumed attackts or whatever from the other cats........
