HI Meg,

Something to ponder over a cup of coffee.

The Master Meditates

In a cedar lined hall, the swordsman slips into a Kata so old
bright blade arcing through the air, a whisper of light
each step a balance of form and movement so right
centered within and without, in a single life true and bold

Flowing through forms across space in soundless flight
a timeless dance with a warrior’s edged and true steel
part of all, and yet so alone, immersed in all to feel
in an empty hall under wintered trees in dawn’s light

Neither pain nor love nor laughter mars this soul
moving in ancient patterns as a mind and heart
spiral into oneness as everything becomes a part
the universe, at last in that single moment, is whole

Third Season and Counting

Autumn has an air to it that hints at everything,
of fires on a shore with a lover,
with cocoa by the fire within.

Warm clothes bundling you up like worthy friends,
sheltering you from chill east winds,
making the day a place to play.

Holiday joys and meetings anew yet old as all of us,
exploring the time with surprises filling time,
with special things a heart can hold.

Burning leaves and soft evening rains to wash the woods,
scent the time forever in my mind,
echoes of the moments entwined with all your time.

Thank you, here is another to autumn

Smelling a Memory

Cinnamon scented whispers recall
apple pies on a window ledge to cool
and tarts to eat beside the fire
and cobbler in a bowl to share

Kitchen magic made with care
lovingly crafted, and I never tire
Grandma would laugh and I would drool
against the backdrop of a golden fall

The Ushpizzin
Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world. —James 1:27
In Jewish legend, the ushpizzin are guests who visit the pious at Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles. They are supposedly the great Old Testament heroes who come offering comfort and encouragement to the faithful.

According to Jewish lore, these unseen guests only visit the sukkah (shelter) where the poor are welcome—a reminder of each person’s responsibility to care for others. It also reminds them that unseen watchers may be observing their conduct.

The story of the ushpizzin isn’t true, of course. But beyond the lore and legend we are reminded that we as Christ-followers are living observed lives. Others are watching us. And our concern for others, particularly the least among us, is an expression of the compassion Christ displayed to the hurting and outcast of His generation.

James, the half-brother of Jesus, challenged believers to put the love of Christ into practice. He wrote, “Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world” (James 1:27).

The example of Christ and the words of Scripture inspire us to care for our hurting world. Who’s watching us? Our world is watching. And so is our Lord!

I just say it three words at a time and eventually I mastered it. This and I am half Japanese!!!!! My level of Japanese amounts to a few words and phrases, my Mother speaks, reads and writes it fluently./Just Asking - seoul62.

You have awakened ‘the ole taste buds’ for me this morning. I am getting ready for a bite of breakfast and am afraid it may not taste as good as what I just read in your poetry. Remembering is wonderful! Thank you for your lovely contributions to Amy’s Place.

Oh, my...you have really done it now! Nothing I fix will be quite so satisfying as your pic. shows! However, if I would eat all of that, I probably would want to sleep all day. But I can dream anyway!

I’m 6’ 2” and a big guy, that’s a normal breakfast for me. Clearly your a svelte type with less demands in the “Stoking up for the Day” process. Actually my wife and I often hit a different restaurant each work day morning (old favorites) and have a nice breakfast to start the day, (someone else does the dishes and the coffee’s hot)
