CNN Graphic: "Couric Nails Palin" (no bias here, move along)
CNN | 9-28-2008 | CNN

Posted on 09/28/2008 8:33:21 AM PDT by FReepaholic

Anybody see CNN today at around 10:30am Eastern? Apparently they were discussing the Couric interview of Sarah Palin.

At the bottom of the screen was the words: "Couric Nails Palin".

One of the commentators was expressing their glee that Couric hammered Palin in the interview.

Nah, no bias here.

Disclaimer: I don't watch CNN but the cable repair guy was here and he had control of the remote.

Note to SAPPs (Self Appointed Post Police): No, I didn't do a search to see if this had already been posted. Sue me.

Couric is a twit with poor ratings. Sarah is the real deal.

OTT, but does anyone have a picture of Katie from a few years back in which she is wearing this gaudy multicolored dress more appropriate for a harlequin? Thanks.

While the Couric interview was an obvious hatchet job, complete with cut and paste editing, why the McCain Campaign would send Governor Palin to let Perky (knowing exactly who and what she is) do her stuff is beyond me.

You win wars by fighting. This interview was an engagement, a battle hardening experience. No one watches CBS.

“And dolts like Kathleen Parker from NRO fell for the deception. “

“CBS Edits Palin Response To Create Bad Impression Of Palin, Obama Compaign Edits Out Half A Sentence To Create A Lie”
http://strata-sphere.com/blog/index.php/archives/6110

SJReidhead over at the Pink Flamingo notes why Sarah Palin came off so incoherent in those CBS News interviews with Katie Colic - Palin’s responses where edited to make her appear to stumble:

“…(2:58) Couric: What, specifically, in your view, could be done to convince the new government in Pakistan to take a harder, tougher line against terrorists in that country?

Palin: At a time when new leadership comes in, that is the opportunity to forge better, tighter, more productive relationships and that’s what we’ll take advantage of with new leadership in the US and in Pakistan. And I’m sure that President Zardari, too, will agree with us as we commit to the support that Pakistan needs, that other nations in the region need, in order to win this war on terrorism. (3:32)
(5:39) Couric: But what lessons do you think you have learned as you’ve watched this unfold in terms of implementing the democracy and the challenges inherent in that goal?

Palin: Well, one is that America cannot be counted on to do this solely, to be the savior of every other nation, but we need friends and we need allies and we need this nation-building effort and we need to forge new alliances, and that is what a new election will provide opportunity to do.

And dolts like Kathleen Parker from NRO fell for the deception. Americans need to demand CBS offer the ENTIRE unedited interview on their website - now. We can then decide for ourselves what was important to hear from Sarah Palin.

This cutting and splicing and rewording the positions of those on the right by the left is becoming fairly rampant. I have found team Obama doing it before. But the worst example I have ever seen of outright lying by snipping words was this ad by the Obama campaign, caught by ABC News (which must be trying to salvage the dying field of journalism).

Here’s the lie ABC News caught the Obama campaign making: [snip] Continue: http://strata-sphere.com/blog/index.php/archives/6110

Ms. Couric reminded the governor that she recently met with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who supports direct diplomacy with both countries. “Are you saying Henry Kissinger is naïve?” Ms. Couric asked. Ms. Palin replied, “I’ve never heard Henry Kissinger say, ‘Yeah, I’ll meet with these leaders without preconditions being met.’ ”

After the Palin interview, Ms. Couric faced the camera and [lied] added a postscript. “Incidentally, we confirmed Henry Kissinger’s position following our interview,” she said, explaining that Mr. Kissinger supports talks “without preconditions.”

Last night, McCain was rubbing Obama’s naive nose in talking to Iran conditionally, and why you must have conditions. Obama countered with why he wouldn’t have conditions, and that even Kissinger agreed to talk with Iran without preconditions. McCain countered saying that he’s known Henry Kissenger for 35 years, and would never negotiate with Iran without certain conditions, and the same held true with China and other countries.

Kissinger Says Obama Wrong on Kissinger’s Position in Debate Tonight

Kissinger says Obama and Couric misrepresented and mischaracterized his position. (Couric deliberately lied, and so did Obama-as he’s been corrected on this before.)

Henry Kissinger believes Barack Obama misstated his views on diplomacy with US adversaries and is not happy about being mischaracterized. He says: “Senator McCain is right. I would not recommend the next President of the United States engage in talks with Iran at the Presidential level. My views on this issue are entirely compatible with the views of my friend Senator John McCain. We do not agree on everything, but we do agree that any negotiations with Iran must be geared to reality.”

Gibson Obama interview:

How does it feel to break a glass ceiling? How does it feel to “win”? How does your family feel about your “winning” breaking a glass ceiling? Who will be your VP? Should you choose Hillary Clinton as VP? Will you accept public finance? What issues is your campaign about? Will you visit Iraq? Will you debate McCain at a town hall? What did you think of your competitor’s [Clinton] speech?

Palin interview:

Do you have enough qualifications for the job you’re seeking? Specifically have you visited foreign countries and met foreign leaders? Aren’t you conceited to be seeking this high level job? Questions about foreign policy -territorial integrity of Georgia -allowing Georgia and Ukraine to be members of NATO -NATO treaty -Iranian nuclear threat -what to do if Israel attacks Iran -Al Qaeda motivations -the Bush Doctrine -attacking terrorists harbored by Pakistan Is America fighting a holy war? okay seriously though, Palin has got to get better at these interviews. this is not going to end if she and Mac are elected and we can’t go around screaming the MSM is at fault.
I don’t know what the answer is however, besides a complete press ban until they learn to behave.

She can speak directly to the people, even after her election, around the country. She has enough draw-power to bypass the media.

She needs to get off the defensive, and be herself. “What’s your experience in foreign affairs” “The same as Bill Clinton’s, except that I have a state guard (with an aviation wing and coastal force) as a border state wtih a hostile power”. Repeat the question, same answer they segue into how she’s an executive and Hussein isn’t. More foreign affairs, unwind Biden’s gaffes (break up Iraq, voted for the war, voted against drilling), etc.

FREE SARAH PALIN!

wow, after reading how Couric butchered that interview, maybe McCain/Palin only agree to interviews where exact transcripts are made easily available and announced at the end of the interview.
Couric should be ashamed of herself, but I’m sure she isn’t.

As I posted elsewhere, Palin has to prove herself. It was her stupidity (unless she has an explanation she hasn’t properly expressed) to say being Governor of Alaska gives her foreign policy experience. Other than that I thought she did find. Perhaps, when she didn’t know the answer to that question by Couric she should have simply said so.

I wish she had said to Couric “My feelings are hurt because you haven’t asked me how I like being on the cover of national magazines”

Perhaps it's something like bootcamp. Palin is tough. She can take it. But she comes from a state where she has an 84% popularity rating. A little rough-and-tumble will teach her to play basketball again. She isn't intimidated by these clowns. I'll bet she even keeps a list of troglodytes to elbow later. "Sarahcuda," remember?

She should have argued with Couric
“I just gave you several examples of John McCain’s work in calling for regulation... if you need more I’ll have my aides get back to you - you freaking moron!”

Now that’s what I would have liked to hear.

On one hand, it doesn’t matter if nobody watches CBS if the cable news outlets are then all given the tape and play it as news, with even more spin than the original.

On the other, if she couldn’t handle an interview she wouldn’t be on the ticket anyway.

I will say that allowing Charlie to get away with it was bad, but not taking measures to keep it from happening with Kati is just foolish. I’d include a couple of requirements regarding editing and other things if they want access to a candidate.
