Is the bailout the end of Obama's Socialist agenda?

As I've listened to the discussions of the proposed financial market "bailout"....something has finally sunk in.

OK, actually.....two things.

First....it's going to be unbelievably expensive. We're all going to pay the price for the irresponsibility of Democrat policies/politicians and reckless Wall Streeters. Argue that all you wish, but that's a fact.

Second.....as Mr. Obama goes about building his entire campaign on ridiculously expensive, Socialist programs for everything from health care to education to...yes...home ownership, how on earth can he continue to propose such HUGE price tags in light of this new, massive financial burden that is about to be placed upon the American taxpayer?

In other words...can he possibly continue to discuss multi-billion dollar + "initiatives" when the American public are just now coming to grips with a HUGE tab to bailout the financial/mortgage markets?

I think it's political suicide. He'll have to dramatically adapt his messaging, in my humble opinion.

Just me.....or do any of you agree? Am I all wet here?

Yes it is— apparently the reason for the short sale ban was because of an orchestrated shorting effort from offshore funds. And believe me, I have shorted stocks many time and believe it is a respectable and necessary activity... but support this ban if it was intended to stop a coordinated scheme to bankrupt the US financial system.

There is much more to this story than we know, or that we will ever know.

I have never felt such a sense of foreboding than I feel right now. And not because of my portfolio value- it is at an all-time high. Rather, I see the freedom we have slipping through our fingers in the name of a manufactured crisis.

This is the 9/11 of the left. They are so quick to call it the crisis of late capitalism, and their fellow travelers in the Dem party are eager to nudge us away from liberty.

What better man to “fix” what ails us that a manufactured candidate? A man who rises out of nowhere, author of two memoirs before his 45th birthday, who networked within Marxist circles in the US and who has connections to powerful but nefarious figures outside the US, who maintains a veneer of middle-class American mannerisms and mores, and yet takes advantage of the vast resevoir of white guilt for historical racial injustice. Whoever, or whatever they are have identified and exploited our weaknesses skillfully.

I couldn’t agree more. I’m a major supporter of term limits; this is just another sad example of......why.

Its not really a bailout, but a buyout. The defaulted mortgages the feds will buy up will eventually be re-sold, and will probably even make some money for the taxpayers.

Same thing happened in 2000, with the “dot-com” bubble that imploded right before the elections.

Ironic, that people who loathe capitalism so much, can manipulate it so easily...

I'm tried of this party first mentality. You have had a Republican majority in Congress for years and they did NOTHING. They were actually about as bad as the 80th congress. This is why the Dems are in, not because they beat the Republicans but the Republicans beat themselves. Now, the last 2 years Dems have done NOTHING as well.

When are you going to actually start thinking about country first instead of my party right or wrong?

BOTH FAILED the American people. I'd like to ask you if you are objective enough to think of something that the Republicans have done wrong. Or when was the last time you agreed with a Democrat?

This is government and financial sector corruption plain and simple and now that all hell is breaking nobody wants to own it.

Why should people pay for corporate failure? Corporate idiots who got themselves into this mess want government intervention only when there is loss. This is basically socialist fascism.

As far as I'm concerned I think the two parties have both failed America and her people.

You completely missed my point, and if you think I’m a “my party, right or wrong” person....then you have no clue who you’re talking to (and I’ve been on this forum for a decade). I’m anything BUT that.....I’m a Constitutionalist, first and foremost.

Facts are facts. Has Wall St. and the financial community well and truly screwed the pooch here? Of course. I’m in the high performance computing industry and have more than a passing knowledge of the complexity of their ‘products’ and how convoluted that entire industry has become. It’s ludicrous, really....but they’re doing what they are told to do: make money any way they can.

Let’s focus on what the Federal govt. has done, dating back to Carter and definitely the Clinton years. If the fact that Democrats FORCED the financial community and the mortgage industry to issue loans to sub-par applicants in the name of bullshit, politically-correct efforts to get more “poor” (read.......”minorities”) into home ownership offends you somehow, get over it. It WAS the Democrats who shoved this idiocy through in the form of LAW, my friend. Fact. Go look it up.

Add to that the resistance of morons like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, etc. to any changes or additional oversight re: Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae (why? they were in their pockets, that’s why....as is Obama, in a big way)...and yes, there is NO debate about the guilt of the freakin’ DEMOCRATIC PARTY in creating this debacle.

You’ll see here that I’m not exactly tossing love notes to the GOP...but guilt is guilt, actions are actions, history is history.
