The 1951 film was inspired by a 1940 short story called, Farewell to the Master, by Harry Bates. You can read it here.

I saw the original one and found it boring as frakin hell... I will not be seeing the new one..

The original is a classic and one of my favorites. A little dated now and a little preachy, but then again few of us were alive in 1951. And if this film had any political motives it would be released before the election. I always like a good remake. It's a classic theme: a threat from another world unites the governments of Earth. Maybe I watch too much sci-fi but I think it's a threat worth considering.
