LOL! It works if you copy the URL into another window. All I see on the post is a red X, though. That happened with the pictures of James Morrison that I posted last month.

Hi, Kiddies!

I’m pretty late, huh?
Well, it was 57 when I got up this morning, and at the moment, it’s a whopping 78. I think winter is almost here. Of course the weather prognosticators are saying we’re due for 90’s again by Thursday, but the weekend says it’s going to be ugly.

The GOOD news is that we got some “rain” last night. When you live in the desert, even 1/4” is RAIN!

I don’t know how long I’ll manage to stay up, as things are not going well for me today. However, once I warm up, I should be fine! :o])

Similar weathers here, but no rain in the forecast.

Anoreth, I’m sure you’ll find a branch of the service that will allow to use ‘splody things. Barring that, you can always drag race...:o]

Hiya, GD! No wonder I didn’t feel good today...no breakfast...

TC: Anoreth is a little beyond the age for “precocious.” *snort*

I’m not happy with the cooler weather PLUS the fact that we have another month to go before DST ends. ARRRRGGHHHH!!!

If I wanted to be in the dark this long, I’d live in Alaska!

I don’t know whose brilliant idea two-month + DST time was, but I certainly don’t see the wisdom in the action. For what it’s worth, I don’t see the wisdom in DST. Period.

All one needs to do is get up earlier, open stores earlier, close for lunch, open again and be open later. In winter, you do the opposite. (Spain is a good example of that.)

Farmers are the last to benefit from DST. Cows and crops have their own times, and the farmers adjust to them.

But don’t get me started. (Could I be cranky because of the ear infection????)

You could. Take your medicine and put a heating pad on your ear. Are you cleaning your ear out with tea-tree oil?

Unfortunately, all I have is peroxide. I also have some Disney homeopathic earache drops. (What’s the scientific name for tea tree oil?)

And I’m using the olive leaf for the antibiotic. My ol’ Stand-By.

Hmm, I wonder if Grandmama will give me six grand for my birthday to start me off...

Well, the Army would let me be an ordnance officer, maybe. In the Marines, so long as I'm not a lawyer, it looks like I'll always be involved in combat-related jobs, considering the kinds of things I'm good at. USMC Basic Training looks like hell on earth, but I guess if John Kerry did it so can I.

In the Air Force it looks like I'll end up a paper-pusher if I join up, so I'm looking more at the other branches of service. If I wanted to crunch numbers I could work for Family Dollar.

LOL!

To my knowledge, John Kerry was navy. Doesn’t matter, though, as he was (is) a disgrace to any uniform.

Back in the day, the US Government used to give “juvenile delinquints” and petty criminals a choice: Jail or the USMC. *shudder* And for the life of me, in all my years as a navy wife, mother and widow, I’ve met very few “good” marines. Most of them were on power trips or just plain mean.

The air force is the “junior service,” having once been part of the army. (Army Air Corps.) Unless you can be a pilot, there’s not much incentive there. At least, to my way of thinking.

The best I can offer is this: Talk to ALL the recruiters, including the Coast Guard. The latter is known as the “Shallow Water Navy,” but they are the ones who rescue folks at sea. You could be a chopper pilot in a heartbeat! Or be on a Cutter and chase drug runners while using real guns!

You’ll make an imformed decision, whichever branch you choose. I have faith in you! (After all...your mother has done a great job!)

Tea-tree oil is sometimes called melaleuca aeternifolia. You can get it in a little thumb-sized bottle at Wal-mart for about $4. Nobody in our family has had an ear infection since I started using it.

I wanted to see if it was in this stuff I got for earaches. Nope. I have to go to Wal-Mart in the morning, so I’ll put the tea-tree oil on my list. I have other things to get in that section, as well.

I’m not too excited about going out, but the critterz sez it’s TIME! They’ve picked up habitz from your catz...calling me rude names. They even give me code words with their fingers.

The birdz, of course, have developed a code I haven’t been able to decipher, as yet.

In regard to your tagline: "A rifle without ammunition is just a stick." -- Interesting observation, but sometimes even a stick is more than just a stick;
For Chamberlain there was only one thing left–a counterattack. He gave the order, ‘Fix bayonets!’ Gerrish describes it this way: ‘Every man understood in a moment that the movement was our only salvation, but there is a limit to human endurance… and the little line seemed to quail under the fearful fire that was being poured upon it. In that moment of supreme need…Lieutenant Holman S. Melcher with a cheer and a flash of his sword, full ten paces to the front he sprang–ten paces–more than half the distance between hostile lines. ‘Come on! Come on! Come on, boys!’ he shouts. The color sergeant and the brave color guard follow, and with one wild yell of anguish wrung from it’s tortured heart, the regiment charged.’

In a brilliantly executed maneuver, Chamberlain’s men charged forward and across the hill from the left wing of their line while those on the right swung with them in an extended ‘right wheel forward’ movement. Chamberlain described the charge as having the effect of ‘a reaper cutting down the disconcerted foe.’ Stunned, the Confederate troops in the front ranks dropped their rifles and surrendered. The rest broke and retreated toward a stone wall in their rear.

‘Suddenly,’ said Chamberlain, ‘to our mutual surprise, two scores of rifle barrels gleam over the rocks, and a murderous volley was poured in upon them at close quarters.’ Captain Morrill’s lost Company B and Staughton’s wandering sharpshooters rose up out of their hiding place, and with a shout they too charged into the Confederate flank, making such a commotion that the Rebels thought they were a whole regiment. Oates described the situation: ‘My position rapidly became untenable. The Federal infantry were reported to be coming down on my right and certainly were closing in on my rear.’ He ordered his staff officers to ‘return to your companies; we will sell out as dearly as possible.’

What was left of the 15th and 47th Alabama Regiments fled to Round Top. Oates collapsed while climbing the hill and might have been captured had not two of his men carried him to safety. He described the retreat simply and honestly, saying, ‘We ran like a herd of cattle.’

Chamberlain reported capturing 400 prisoners. In addition, 150 dead or wounded Rebels were found in his front. These numbers seem exaggerated; at least Oates thought so. He admitted that in a roll call after the battle only 223 enlisted men and half the officers (19) of his regiment responded. The 20th Maine had only 200 of 386 officers and men still effective. The Confederate assault on the south slope of Little Round Top had been repulsed.
