I’m a news junkie, so it pains me to say that most news writers are retards.

But that isn’t the root of the problem because wisdom isn’t dependent upon education or even intellect. Its rooted in a moral understanding of reality, and a practical understanding of reality. Add to that a sense of history, a sense of the transcendent, an appreciation for the tragic and the beautiful, thats where wisdom lies. And something in the way we educate our writers and our people in general leaves them myopic in the ways that matter most.

Just because Sweden of today is a much better run place than the havoc surrounding the editorial offices of Wall Street Journal, Washington post etc and furthermore is a nation more devoted to Capitalism than most other nations are, does this mean we deserve to be attacked by herds of ignorant journalists on a daily basis?

You are probably not old enough to remember your political “ancestors,” Hjalmar Branting, Rikard Sandler, Per Albin Hansson, Tage Erlander, Olof Palme, Ingvar Carlsson, and until 2006 Goran Persson, all socialists, and absolutely NOT for capitalism!

Living in the U.S 25 years, though I still have an apartment in Malmo (Mariedalsvagen,) with many friends there and families in Skane, I don’t know very many who owns two houses or drive luxury cars. We have one Lincoln Town car, one Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser (7 persons) station wagon!!

My personal opinion is that all other countries could learn a lot from the way in which we Vikings organize our societal life and no, it has little to do with European Socialism.

I think it has ALL to do with European Socialism, and I would NOT exchange my Swedish societal life for anything from my American societal life, other than I would definitely chose the Danish as a second!!!

We believe in individual freedom and freedom of enterprise like few other cultures do.

That is only a half truth, that came into play in 2006 with P.M. Fredrik Reinfeldt who moved his party from the right to center!!!!

As young men (boys really), many years ago my brother & I traveled through Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Back then, we found the scenery interesting, many of the roads challenging, and the people quite friendly.

Especially in Sweden, where our old VW bug quit running. They soon had it repaired, and didn't charge more than we could afford -- which wasn't much. Will never forget that.

Now -- Norway and Denmark are members of NATO, which means they routinely contribute a share toward defending the West. God bless them for that.

Sweden, on the other hand was neutral throughout the World Wars and Cold War, and economically more socialist than any other country this side of the Iron Curtain.

So, Sweden has stood alone -- neither east nor west, neither fish nor fowl, contributing to no one else's defense, and with no one else to come to Sweden's aid, should you ever really need it.

Yes, of course, the Swedes insist they really do their fair share -- with UN peacekeepers, humanitarian aid, etc. All well and good.

But the defense of peace and freedom sometimes requires pure blood and guts -- or, we might even say, the old Viking berserker spirit.

And when the Vikings are called to line up for battle, where are the Swedes? Oh, they're off nursing the sick, and giving Peace Prizes to terrorists, for Christ's sake. Yes, those are worthy causes no doubt, but sometimes wildly inappropriate, imho of course.
