VANITY: Run on gas here in TN
9-12-2008 | me

Posted on 09/12/2008 5:58:10 PM PDT by Imgr8t

I apologize for the vanity, but my wife just went out to get some clothes for our oldest... and apparently there is a run on gas tonight. We live in Murfreesboro, TN and she passed about 8 service stations that were out of gas before finding one that was stocked. Of course, it was $3.89/gal.

I guess Ike has people freaking out. It looks like a really bad situation there for Texas. Hopefully trucks will run tomorrow to replenish the supply that's all but gone tonight.

On another note, I was watching a show on the science channel the other night that showed a town in Texas that refines an unGodly amount of gasoline... what town was that and is it in the path of the storm??

Most of the gasoline distributed throught the USA is done by pipelines originating in Houston. When the refineries go done, so do the pipelines creating shortages. For those in the South, Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, here’s a link to a map that shows the Colonial Pipeline main trunk distribution http://www.colpipe.com/ab_map.asp

That’s cheap, it’s still 4.29 in Chicago. The home of high taxes, huge corruption and the home of Nobama’s campaign.

My husband just got home from Jackson this evening. He said in Stockbridge and Perry the lines were long and the one gas station in Perry was sold out of regular and mid grade. The only thing we can figure is people have heard of the prices going up in Kentucky and Tennessee and are rushing out to get more gas.

My husband was worried that something had happened like more terrorist attacks, etc. and he couldn’t listen to the radio because AM doesn’t work in his vehicle.

A run on Gasoline here in SW VA too. It seemed to begin around Noon today.

Several gas stations where I live are completely out of gas right now, and cars are in line out into the roads at the stations that DO have gas. We filled both of our SUVs this morning before it got crazy, because I got wind of it early this morning when I heard a gas truck driver talking about it while I was standing in line buying some smokes.

Yeah, I put $15 in the Dodge Ram this morning, but the Mapco only had mid grade. Now at one point I worked in the petroleum industry (briefly) and all of our stations used a mix of the high grade and low grade to make the mid grade. Maybe they were just anticipating this and tried to sell as much gas as they could by only offering mid grade.

In Memphis, its worse. People are just stupid. I had to get gas as I was out. Paid $3.999 just so I would have to be in a 25 deep line. No exageration

I live in southern IN, right across the Ohio River from downtown Louisville - about 7 miles. There are 3 gas stations near me (right off I-64) - one of them, as of 9:00 this evening was at $4.19, another was $3.99, and the other was CLOSED - very, very unusual!!

Gas went from $3.56 to $4.19 here in central Alabama in less than 24 hours. We also have several stations sold out of all grades.

Look at what it’s up to in Lansing (gasbuddy.com, zip 48917). That’s right—$4.98 a gal. The lines for those Admirals are running through neighborhoods. They’ll be out of gas soon enough.

My wife told me about a run on gasoline in Mt Pleasant, Michigan, pretty far from the Gulf of Mexico. She said that someone from Jackson, Michigan, said that gas would go up to $6 bucks a gallon tomorrow. There were lines at all the gas stations in town.

Who says people don't respond to price signals? I filled up in Dallas, TX today, a town with a lot of evacuees from Houston, for $3.59 a gallon. No panic here, with more reason for a run.

So, on route home...

Kirby and 385..... 3 Stations again.

Station 2: $3.44/gal. 6 Deep per pump.
And they had a tanker filling the tanks as I drove by.
