I am not here to create a panic.
But, what the heck is this?
Is is just a rumor?
I will post a couple of threads documenting this in a moment.
Hurricane Ike causing gas price issues in SC

GAS GOING UP BY 5 PM EST

This is an over-reaction to disruptions expected as a result of hurricane Ike. Here in southeast Texas the lines are there but it isn’t a run per se. We are or have evacuated. Regular is around $3.60 per gallon which is up about a dime since hurricanes Gustav and Hanna. This will settle down.
So much gas is refined here in Texas that markets are reacting.

Ping and thanks for the heads up.
You see where Ike is headed? Guess where most of the US refineries are? And which major Texas city lies on top of the key East-West pipelines for fuel in this country? Everything goes through and under Houston and Baytown.
Thanks for the post.
Rumor Only.
3 stations were out of gas at 7pm in my town.
Include Sylva and Franklin NC in the list. I’d guess maybe spot shortages, but the word on the street is no further tankers in until next week. National data suggests Tuesday.
I’m in SW VA.
I heard a big gas station manager saying to another person that they were having problems getting shipments of gasoline. She said that they were nearly to the point of closing late last week, and said they are seeing similar supplies this week.
They’ve hyped this a bit even up here in Virginia. At my local station, price went up from $3.47 to $3.63.
I went ahead and filled my cars, because I figured if the unthinkable happens and some refineries are really knocked out, I’d like to have a month without worrying about my supply before I have to go back again.
But I really doubt the price will stay up more than a week or so.
In fact, the price increase should keep people from doing waht I did and buying up all the gas.
They are more worried about water damage than wind damage. IF Ike stays at current strength, not really a wind problem. Refines, ‘should’ be able to handle anything Ike throws at them. We might see a price rise for awhile, but once damage is assessed, and repaired price should start dropping again.
(speaks someone who’s Dad worked offshore and in refines for over 20 years).
I grew up in Houston and most of my family are still there. If Ike strengthens to a Category 4 or 5, then the pipelines underneath the Houston Ship Channel are going to be stressed heavily. I remember back when I was in grad school at Baylor College of Medicine we had torrential rain that lasted about 15 hours...everything flooded and the pipelines cracked and blew sky high. We were all waiting for the plague of locusts to infest the city :-).
3.38 down .10 in Covington, Tn. Just north of Memphis.
I went up 15 cents today at my station. The Home Depot. I filled up at 2.64 in the Nashville area. Last night it was 2.49. Alot of refugees come here.
I = It
Please add a buck to all of that nonsense.
During hurricane Rita, the roads were jammed, people ran out of gas, and jammed things even more. This time they have extra fuel trucks ready to keep people moving. They are probably sucking up some of the supply. Plus gulf coast refineries and rigs will be shut down,
I filled up tonight just west of Chattanooga. Price went up a dime from this afternoon, to 3.58. There was sign on the gas pumps saying please don’t buy more than 10 gallons due to the gas shortage in the southeast. There was a constant stream of 10- 15 cars waiting to fill up.
No problems up here in Chicago, other than the ridiculous amount of tax we pay on every gallon. Still at $4.15/gallon with no issues with supply. By all the overtaxed gas you want.
