COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said Tuesday that running back Chris "Beanie" Wells will play in Saturday's game against top-ranked USC after missing last week's game with an injury to his right big toe.
How much Wells plays largely depends on his progress in practices Tuesday and Wednesday. Wells will run and go through individual drills Tuesday before participating fully in Wednesday's workout.
"He probably ran better than I thought he might [on Monday]," Tressel said.
Wells has been testing the foot/toe on a stationary bike and in the pool. He's listed as the starter on this week's depth chart ahead of Dan "Boom" Herron, who received the bulk of the carries this past week.

Except when they play an SEC team.
I like the Big Ten but I think USC has too much for Ohio State. The Pac Ten teams always seem to have a lot of speed. The brownies better bring something more than they showed to the cowboys.
And by then, OSU puts out all they have on the field for SEC teams to expose. But OSU football is still good football.
Did Tress say if the offensive line would play, too? :)
I am not a real big fan of OSU, but I sure hope they knock off USC. I can’t stand their weany of a coach!
Class of ‘81
Fight on!!
That's University of Spoiled Children to you, bub.
USC has far too much team speed for Ohio State to compete.
While I hope it is a good game, I think the second half is going to get ugly.
Gee... isn’t that what they said about Maimi?
When he was a young boy, his little brother thought Beanie’s head was too small for his body, he thought it looked like a bean.
You might want to have checked on the Oregon State debacle against Penn State this past week before you said that.
That being said, Ohio State has no way of beating the high stakes payroll of USC this week. They will most likely get decimated.
This is GREAT news. We are really going to need him. The offense last week had me very worried. I think we need to stick with the basics, run the football.
Thanks for the ping looks like a great weekend of college football.
Go Buckeyes! oHIo
That's the truth.
Miami played poorly, and suffered a major injury to their best player. On top of that, I didn’t think Miami was significantly better that Ohio State that year.
But that wouldn't scare this guy....
Did you read my post?
Thanks. I’ll be up late tonight (well, it’s probably early by my standards) creating the delight to the optic nerve that will be this weekend’s live thread, so be sure to stick around for that.
Big ten fans are self delusional. Ohio State is getting ready to get its ass kicked.
