Barack Obama has said he considered joining the United States military when he left school but decided not to
because the Vietnam war was over and "we weren't engaged in an active military conflict at that point".
The statement is thought to be the first time during the 19-month-long presidential campaign that the Democratic
nominee for the White House has indicated he once wanted to serve in uniform. The aspiration was not mentioned in either of his two volumes of memoirs.

Yes. All my friends who were a year younger had to register. In fact I think I missed the deadline by like two weeks — I think if you were born in July of that year you had to register and I was born in June. He’s several years younger than me.
See My post #37
It was during this time we faced down and defeated Qaddafi, that mad man and father of modern day terrorism, who decided to extend the coastal claims of Libya to the waters where American naval maneuvers are conducted.
I have recounted the event in my FR profile, here is an excerpt:
“Within months after taking office, Ronald Reagan took a stand. He made it clear that American maneuvers in the Gulf of Sidra would proceed as they always had before Carter. Anticipating trouble, Reagan was asked by the Joint Chiefs what American pilots do if attacked? Would Reagan's orders allow for “hot pursuit”? Reagan's answer All the way into the hanger.” You know the rest of the story.”
Now shall we talk about the Cold War? Peace Time military My A##. It was because of the post Vietnam Military rebuilt and led By Ronald Reagan that we has such a long period of no major confrontations, and the Cold War ended.
I didn’t join the military, but “I THOUGHT ABOUT IT.” So I'm kinda like a Vet, a war hero, myself.........
Obama is an expert leader because he was a community organizer.
Obama also served his country and has first hand knowledge of the military because he “thought about joining.”
And I wanted to join the University of Florida football team when I was in college.
BULL!
He HATES the military. He didn’t even bother to visit them in his celibrity tour in Europe or in Iraq. He’s full of crap.
Youre NO Christian either, Obomination.
You slipped :
my MUSLIM faith....

“YAAAAAH!! and I “wanted to date Brooke Shields” when I was younger.”
You and me both pal, you and me both. Now about that moon rocket I wanted to build in my Dad’s back yard.
Naw, you had to start registering again if you graduated HS after 1977. They have never put the draft into effect, but the requirement to register was there.
You didn’t sign up, so shut up Bacrock.
Like my dad says..."It's good to want things".
At least Jerry Wright actually DID serve.
Not sure. I looked it up and it wasn’t reinstated until sometime in 1980 I beleive. Either way I’m quite sure the communist radical had no intention of joining the military. At least not the US military in any case!
That’s right... Carter did away with the registration requirement but Reagan reversed that when he got in there. It wasn’t based on your graduation year, it was based on your age.
Thx for the info, i knew it was something like that but could not remember the timetable. now the question is: did he register? how old is he anyways? shows how much i care about him huh...lol...
see post 37, did carter sign it into law then do away with it later? you guys are confusing me now.....lol...
The aspiration was not mentioned in either of his two volumes of memoirs.
How convenient that he releases this thought now.
