This lie has no end of holes in it.
Since he graduated H.S. 1 year before me, and by that time the Vietnam war had been over for about 7 or 8 years it seems a pretty sad statement on his knowledge of world events that he didn't know that it had ended.

Obama: "Can I get me a gook hunting license here?"
DS:"Um... The vietnam War has been over for several years sir."
Obama: "Oh, ummm.. can I get me a selective service registration here?"
DS:"No sir. there is no requirement for the selective service."
Obama to self: "Darn, I'll have to fudge it when I run for president.

Graduated H.S. 1979 - - Hmmmmmmm I was in the Navy from 1977 to 1982 and it was in those “Jimmy Carter” years that the military budget was slashed and the moral and sense of purpose was at its worse. I remember F.T.N. was common graffiti printed on the patricians of the toilet stalls. The respect from the civilians was also the lowest at any point since before WWII, ad was the reenlistment rate.

If he truly thought about joining, I would guess his decision not to was not because he would not go into battle, but that he did not like the military.

Thankfully when Ronald Reagan took over in 1980 moral turned around Big Time and pride in the Military returned.
