My wife, who works in a show-biz-related field, is surrounded on all sides there by many an angry lefty. Today she asked me to help her find --
"a couple very respectable/provable links regarding Canada's failing health care system".
Of course I tried, but most of what I found were position papers without point-for-point documentation.
I'd be grateful for any leads, especially to pages that document their critiques with links to source material -- and that are comprehensive, i.e., that point out a broad array of problems with Canada's approach, not just one or two.
Gracias!
This is anecdotal, but telling nonetheless.
Belinda Stronach, the MP for Newmarket-Aurora and former cabinet minister, travelled outside Canada’s health-care system to California for some of her breast cancer treatments.

I wonder why.
Its the same in all socialists countries. The party leaders (politburo members) go to capitalist countries for their treatments. Hell, even Islamic terrorists do. I met King Fahd’s (Saudia Arabia) heart surgeon by chance at DFW airport in 2004. He was a british guy. He went on and on about the Evil Bush and the beauty of Britain’s health care system. I asked him why he was in the USA, he said to do some surgery. I laughed, he had to come to the USA to make any money.
Its always the same. Its good enough for their subjects, but such great “leaders” and “minds” should have the best. It always comes down to who has the guns in the end of a socialist nightmare.
We have the best system in the world. Can everyone afford the best....? Of course not. But then again all Italians don’t drive Ferraris. If it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. I think Universal Healthcare fits that bill....don’t you?
I try and use the analogy of the DMV with useful idiots who are taken with government programs. Thats how well government does things. Most people have to suffer through the DMV at least once in their lives. It is designed for inefficiency. Many average liberals can relate with that experience. But they will quickly revert to their emotionally induced ignorance and continue spouting their party line. Most liberals are well indoctrinated by the MSM and their “college experience”. They are good little robots.
Don’t waste your time trying to figure them out. It will only make you dizzy.
Thank you to you and everyone else who chimed in!! So much to digest, but in a good sense.
Actually it's quite simple. She had had reconstructive surgery in Toronto , where , if you had read the article you posted , you'd know she had all of her treatment for cancer.
Why California? Seems they specialize in rebuilding nipples. She survived that surgery too.
Well, entertain me. Why don’t they have reconstructive nipple surgery in Canada? I’ll tell you why. America has a more innovative health system than any country in the world. Feel free to see if you can get an honorary membership in the Canadian Health System. I’ll stay right here.
FreeDominion.com (Canada’s FR) likely has some news articles on various horror stories...
Ping!
Canadian survival rates are better than European, though that may be because 90% of Canada's population lives within a hundred miles of an American hospital. Nevertheless, in terms of survival rates the Canadian system is definitely inferior to the American.
Imaging having to go through that hell here gave me shivers. My grandmother is not in the best health... Medicare helped, but it was horrible where she was forced to go to rehab for when she broke her hip. I truely hope McCain wins, for all our sakes.
BTW love your signature.
Maybe. But if the most innovative health system chooses to spend it 's time developing the best techniques to reconstruct nipples , perhaps it's focusing on something other than health care.
As for the Canadian health system I and my family have used it for over forty years and definitely know more about it that a bunch of yard birds cherry picking old articles about it.
No Canadian is advocating the US adopt the Canadian system , only your fellow Americans so for entertainment look to your own system , if you can't recognize it's faults and failures being critical of another is nothing but stupidity and arrogance .
Fine. Like i said, keep using the CHS. The USA has never looked to Canada for inspiration. In fact, its the other way around. Don’t get me wrong. I personally like the Canucks and I am very appreciative of some of the contributions they have made to western civilization, but you guys can keep your socialist tendencies. The demographic differences between our two countries account for the reason that socialized medicine would never work here, or at least not like it would ‘work’ in Canada.
As for cherry picking, well, i could provide you with a detailed brakdown of the major problems plaguing the CHS, i just don’t feel it necessary to justify American ingenuity and success to someone from Canada. No one gets turned away for NECESSARY treatment in the US. Not even our southern neighbors who are crossing our border at the rate of a million a year.
When someone who has the means, needs top of the line medical care, where do they go? Its not Canada.
I am aware of them. I also know the difference between necessary and elective.
Actually that was my point to you . Are you aware of the US failings . I doubt it.
As for inspiration . Years after you , we copied your income tax legislation, your central bank , your government supported development of your road, canal and railway systems , your trade tariffs , your unemployment insurance, your government run pensions and your public health system . Even your depression era "New Deal " had been called "socialist " , the U.S. Supreme Court judging many of the original New Deal's regulations beyond the power of any American government , when we got around to trying something like it.
Yes we're always looking south for inspiration. Thanks , we really needed all that inspiration.
I saw this in the UK Daily Mail, just today
Thanks Blair for a bouncy health-care
Remember how, 11 years ago, Tony Blair kept telling us that we had only ‘24 hours to save the NHS’?
Back then, doctors used to make house calls and it was still possible to find a dentist who hadn’t gone private.
Billions of pounds later, thousands of patients are either reduced to pulling out their own teeth or going abroad for treatment.
Now an enterprising Hungarian company has spotted a gap in the market. To save British patients having to fly to Budapest for their root canal work, they’re setting up an inflatable dental surgery over here.
It will travel round the country offering half-price treatment.
It’s come to this. After more than a decade of Labour ‘investment’, your best chance of getting your teeth filled is queuing up to see a Hungarian operating out of a bouncy castle. Makes you proud to be British.

Look, i really don’t have anything against Canucks. Just their approach to a health plan. Canadians are fine people and we share 95% of the same values. If i were sitting next to a canadian on the flight i’m getting ready to board, i wouldn’t know it. I would assume he was American.
But, this is a fact, suck it up, its the truth.
The US’s GDP is more than 10 xs that of Canada’s. We only have 9x as many people.
The US has a 14% greater GDP per person.
US citizens have 30% more disposable income than Canadians.
The US government already spends more than 150% of what Canadians spend for government assisted health issues in GDP. Its really not that bad here. No one gets denied emergency care.
Our problem is not a “bad” system. Just an expensive one. And I spend a lot of time in airports. People come to the US for cutting edge medical procedures. They don’t go to Canada, or Sweeden or China, they come to America.
The USA is the center of the medical research world. You can’t deny it. Canadian health facilities lag tremendously in technology. And it costs them lives every day. The technology they do have was developed right here in the US. 15 YEARS AGO!!!!
Don’t try and tell me that we need to model ourselves on socialist, 2nd class, non-democratic, anti-capatalistic nonesense. Nobody is asking you to change. I have no interest in how you run your country (and it is a very beautiful country, especially the Yukon and BC).
Well if you wanted new nipples I might believe you .Thousands might not . But I might.
Dont try and tell me that we need to model ourselves on socialist, 2nd class, non-democratic, anti-capatalistic nonesense.
I'm not sure where you got that from but in many respects you're a little late.
