MSNBC: NY TIMES APOLOGIZES FOR PHONY PALIN STORY (AIP)
MSBNC | September 3, 2008 | Chris Mathews

Posted on 09/02/2008 9:09:42 PM PDT by icwhatudo

Mathews just said that he has breaking news on MSNBC. He said the NY Times has admitted they got the AIP story wrong and somehow got the party leader to say something that was in fact not true. They are claiming "trouble with the source"

If McCain’s people don’t get a transcription of the “apology” and play it over and over again in ads, shame on them. These sickos need to be humiliated.

Of course the Old DNC Times didn’t bother to check w/the McCain campaign. Just reprint the e-mails from the Oblack campaing.

Pray for W, Mav/Palins and Our Troops

AIP?

Alaska Independence Party, a secessionist party in Alaska. They were trying to link Governor Palin with this party, though she's never been a member (Todd Palin did flirt with them, briefly, *before* Sarah entered politics, but she was never a member...)

Who wants to take a betting pool that this won’t go away and leftists will be still throwing out this charge all the way through the election.

They knew it was a lie from the outset, the point was to get the story out there. They just needed to start the lie, the left will repeat it over and over.

Maybe I’m confused, but if the news hounds have trouble with the source, don’t they hold off on a story until they can confirm their information?

Basic fact checking *used* to be a part of Journalism, but when Journalism devolved into "Advocacy Journalism" (aka Propaganda slinging), such "quaint, archaic notions" were quickly disposed of (the end justifies the means)...

It all about doing damage.

The Times can retract the story, but the readers will remember the story, not the retraction.

You are exactly right when you say they knew what they were doing. There will still be those that continue to spread this lie, just like there are those who are continuing to spread the lie that Trig is Bristol’s (even though it is not mathematically or physically possible).

This is not exactly a story that would be easy to screw up....don’t know how they did it.

Haven’t they heard to use 2 sources? My editor would kill me if I used one anonymous source......
