I hope Socrates was kidding. Maybe he was actually threatening members of his choral group with burial for 17 years if they didn't shape up and learn the music. What a cut-up he was! Never thought he'd amount to anything.

I had planned to make this post a couple of days ago, but got busy on something else. Sorry.
There has been some talk about the size of graphics and bandwidth. We have a few FReepers who do not come to the site because they are on dialup and the large graphic freezes their computers. Hopefully the Internet providers will get broadband to all areas soon. Prior to broadband coming to my area, I was using a satellite connection and was put on probation every time I went over their bandwidth limits. ( Just a little history)
There have been images that I refrained from posting due to their size in bytes. Following are two websites that are available for reducing your images online.
They are ......
This site works with jpeg, gif and png images up to 300,000.
I have not used this site ....
This site reduces jpegs
Below are two images .... The first is from a post on the August Thread. Thank you Sundog for these beautiful pictures.
This image used 250904 bytes.
After I used the 1st website, the same image took 93,772 bytes.
These sites give you several images from which to choose. I hope everyone will bookmark these sites and use them whenever you need to reduce pixel size.
To see the difference in pixel size, right click on the images and then look at the image properties.
I want to thank everyone for the wonderful posts, graphics, links, etc.

I use Fotki and it reduces every image to no more than 500 in width. That helps a bunch!

Amy..one must load the downsized graphic back into your computer and get a new link from tinypic or what ever one uses to get links for graphics..One cannot use the actual links from these sites.
I use these sites almost daily.
.I try to remember to go to these sites and download the lesser byte picture before filing so I won’t fail to check before I post a thread stopper..I have about 20 waiting to be downsized and filed right now..
I like that they keep the original size, just cut the byte size...I can make them smaller with HTML.
Some links the second site will not accept.I just go to tinypic and get a new link to my picture and it usually works.

Uh Oh .... I used the new URL from the site. It will probably disappear soon.
I use fotki also; does it reduce the dpi size as well as the actual size?
Thanks for the links, Meg.
I have only used it a couple of times but it is a great resource. I’ve bookmarked both sites.
I also broke down and read the manual about reducing byte size.

Thanks, Meg. I cannot see any difference between the images.
Some with better eyes than mine might but I doubt it.

I just saw 2 copies of my poem pictures..which did I hurriedly get a link for?..The 118,000 graphic..I just noted my mistake. Nobody’s perfect..I do try to keep it so those on dial up won’t give up on a thread..
I have been there..I had to to give up many times. when I was on dial up..

Yes, I got the last minute RSVPs and the reminder to bring a ladder. I just sent you a freepmail re: the tri-tip.
I went shopping for everything except the fruit for the fruit salad. I will get that Friday. I found some Jose Cuervo Lime Margarita Minis that look really good. One for you and one for me and two left over just in case one isn't enough. ;-) LOL. I think we'll be needing them at the end of the day Saturday, don'tcha think? If we can scrounge up a couple of plastic rocks glasses and a bit of crushed ice we'll be in business.
To: JustAmy
Well......I don’t understand that “dpi” stuff, so I really
don’t know. I just post what I post and it’s not terribly big. LOL!

That helps! It is the byte size more than the actual size that is really a thread stopper for those on dialup....and posting large byte pictures in one post is almost impossible to get to load.
Of course I broke my own rule on posting large byte pictures today because I chose the wrong copy//sigh.
I try to keep mine always 80,000 bytes or less.

I use these all the time..I gave them to Amy..I used the top one as it was under 300,000 bytes.
It’s so easy.
Remember you cannot use their picture links..One must download it to your pictures and get a new link...Just keep scrolling down once you have downloaded your picture to the byte reducer site until you reach.. the desired byte size.
Then load it back to your computer.
