I am back now — still lots of stuff to transfer but the most important stuff is on the new computer and everything seems to be working well.
I never thought I would say this but I am beginning to like Vista, better keep my fingers crossed.

I hope all goes smoothly for you. I had to reformat my hard drive twice last year. That is the ultimate bummer. Maybe 2nd to buying a new one.
