The 2008 peak of hurricane season is ramping up with Gustav and Hanna. The two storms pose threats to the U.S. At least 22 deaths in Hispanola are attributed to Gustav to date, and a Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica. Tropical Storm Hanna has formed in the Atlantic.

yes, he also called Medicare/Medicaid and said extend his people's checks 30 days or something like that so they would not stick around waiting for their end of the month check. Sounded like he had everything and then some covered.

Katrina made landfall in MS, so NO was on the “good side” of the storm...Gus will be worse, especially if he goes straight up Lake Pontchartrain(sp?)

When people realize the extent of the damage done, we’ll see a spike in STOCKS such as USG (makes gypsum wallboard) and plywood companies.

Right after Katrina in 2005, I recall USG shares jumped about 10%.

I hope your cousin checks in soon. We were visiting the MS Gulf coast just over a week ago, and everyone was visibly nervous about Fay. My heart is broken for the folks facing this monster.

Overall I think the storm is still running *just* right of the track. It’s maintaining well right now and will be back over water in 2 hours or less. I think we’re looking at another good siezd pressure drop in the GOM, and may even see winds push upwards of 170-180 in or just past the loop current. Decay may be very slow compared to what we’re used to in the northern gom.... or the storm is simply moving too fast. There are some scary model depictions still coming in with a sub 910mb storm hitting LA.
