The 2008 peak of hurricane season is ramping up with Gustav and Hanna. The two storms pose threats to the U.S. At least 22 deaths in Hispanola are attributed to Gustav to date, and a Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica. Tropical Storm Hanna has formed in the Atlantic.

ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) animated graph:
It takes awhile to load but shows their predicted storm track for the next week+. They show Gustav slamming NOLA on September 2nd, and Hannah then slamming NOLA on September 7th. But you know how these forecasts change, sometimes drastically. Still....
I do a lot of radio fishing reports and we were talking about some 30 inch fish down here in Fla bay last night but they are pretty rare. Mostly they are on the small side.
Wow wish I hadn’t loaded it now, looks like Hanna clips us or comes real close. But thanks,I guess!!
Or....yall could stay home and put up shutters and pick stuff up in the yard:’)
ooh..sorry about that. But forewarned is forearmed. :) Where are you?
Thank youfor the link, what is that 3rd one coming from, anyword on that?
Dayum!
the people here ar talking about a new one forming down near Panama in the Gulf, and the ECM says there’s another one coming from the eastern Atlantic. Other than that, I don’t know anything. I don’t know how to read the maps very well. nwc would be better to explain, I think
fla keys
Oh my.....almost makes you glad to be from Jersey....*sigh*
ooh. yeah looks like Hanna might pose a problem later next week, but as as far as it looks now, it’ll be a glancing blow. Not that makes it a cinch. Don’t people say that the eastern side of a hurricane is the hard-slapping side?
More precisely, the business side of the hurricane is in the quadrant ahead and to the right of the direction of motion.
Exactly we usually refer to the Eastern side of a storm as “the dirty side”. How accurate is this stuff at this point?
On most hurricanes. I think we did have one a couple of years ago which broke that rule.
I’m not sure exactly what the third Atlantic system is, but I’d guess it’s one of the waves either very near Africa or about to exit. I think the other system in the Bay of Campeche is unlikely to develop into much, though a tropical storm may be possible.
A co-worker is supposed to be married in Jamaica on Saturday. I’m thinking...probably not.
Hanna is struggling to survive wind shear. NHC is barely keeping Hanna at Tropical Storm status for the 5PM update.
That is good to hear.
