Arch[a]eologists unearthed a 1,700-year old Apollon statue in Soloi Pompeipolis ancient city [founded in 65-66 B.C.] in the southern province of Mersin. Dr. Remzi Yagci, an archeologist from Dokuz Eylul University, told AA that the statue was made up of bronze in the first half of 3rd century, and belonging to Roman period. Yagci said that the statue of sun-god Apollon was 615 grams and 20 cm. He added that the statue would be given to officials of Mersin Museum.

So delicate...amazing that it survived intact!
Take some Ajax cleanser to it with an old toothbrush it’ll look good as new in no time. Then a couple coats of clear varnish’ll keep it from getting all dark like that again.
And you might have to epoxy glue the feet to a base of some kind to get to stand on the shelf next to the Avon bottles.
If properly done it’ll turn out better looking than one of those Venus statues with a clock in her stomach.
Bronze is tough. Bronze coins of that era, probably not so much...

It is interesting to see that Hellenistic sculpture was still being made this late in the Roman Empire. Shortly after this sculpture became much more stiff, and less lifelike. Then it vanished, as the Dark Ages descended on the West and in the East constant warfare strained their resources.
The idea came to me while having some 18th century chairs hot dipped to get all that old black finish off. Works great, gets right down to the bone so some new stain can go on. Cheers
