In a nut shell: I have a ten year old, neutered, never been outside, male cat in perfect health who just took "a dump", worthy of any cocker spaniel, on the bedroom floor.
He did something like that about a year ago in the living room by the patio door. At first I scolded him but thought no more about it. Then this....the begining of a trend? He had a fresh litter box laid out last night. I am a "stay at home mom" so it couldn't be loneliness. All I can think of is that more and more he wants to be escorted to his food bowl whenever he feels the need for a nosh, no matter what time of day or night. But, for Pete sake, this is an empty nester apt. not Buckingham palace!
Anyway, sorry for ranting and raving but does any one have any thoughts, suggestions, whatever, to nip this thing in the bud?
(It's almost 90 deg. out there and I had to open the bedroom windows to try and get the smell out...grrrrrr)
Well ... rub his face in the poo is good ... just make sure you have industrial strength leather gloves on ... and a friggin PARKA ... you're going to get scratched.
Try to cut something off me and see if I don’t take a dump on your floor.
Your cat may be punishing you for some perceived slight.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Sometimes cats have to go in a hurry. This is true especially for cats that find it hard to go and have hard stools. When things start moving they can’t stop them. As the cat gets older the problem can get worse.
If you think this might be the problem ask the vet about giving kitty a lubricant to help things move along easier.
No, please don't do that to your pets. I can't believe you would even suggest such a mean thing. That's a horrible thing for you to do, and it won't change anything.
First of all, one can never scold or punish a cat. They are not pack animals and have nothing in their psychology to equip them for such things. They cannot related to negatives from humans in that way at all.
They can only relate to us as a kitten to it’s mother. That’s what he sees in you, mom.
When a cat’s behavior changes there are usually two things that can be wrong:
1. Health
2. Environmental stress
A solid check-up by a vet would find any health problems. Yes, they will “dump” if they have a UTI. They relate the litter box with pain and will avoid it at all costs.
Environmental stress is a bit trickier. Again, a good vet can give you some advice in that area. One of my cats was stressed when we brought a 4th cat into our home. It was just one too many for him to deal with. After about a month, we got rid of that tabby and our boy reverted back to normal. Another cat started crapping other than in the box and we couldn’t figure out why. The vet put him on Benadryl, 2 times a day and that fixed it after a few weeks. He could also be having digestive issues which confuse him and he may not recognize the proper signals. He may be just as surprised by his pooping as you are.
Just remember, cats don’t think like we do. Everything they do has a rational purpose in their little mind.
What's a Gunny Sack??
Is that anything like a burlap bag??
Even if I knew what they were, where would someone miles away from a feed bag find one these days?
Times they have changed.
I still remember the chicken feed bags that came in funny patterns that some ladies tried to turn into shirts and dresses.
Well not “literally” sick it in his face, just up close and say “no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”.......
I really did laugh out loud at that one. :)
HAve you changed the litter brand? Changed the location? ANy new people or pets in the house? THey won’t go to the box if they feel cornered, threatened or scared of another pet or person. Is the cat on the same food? Did you give him something that might act as a laxative? I know a lady who kept the box in the basement and her son kept closing the door forgetting about the cat box so the cat kept going on a rug near the door and she got rid of it. Poor cat. You have to think of all the changes going on in the house. Cats are ROUTINE creatures and the least little change could make them act out of character.
God I wish the world were rid of bullies. They are the worst. WIsh we could euthanize them.
Yea, nice thought, except it was a joke and was taken as such.
Pitch it outside.
My sister’s Yorkie is now six and never, ever goes outside for any kind of “relief.” She’s tried everything, no dice. Maybe it’s just male Yorkies, I don’t know. He’s a well trained dog, other than that.
If the litterbox is covered, take off the cover. Many cats hate the things from the get-go, but in the case of an older cat, it may be getting harder for him to see in there, and also harder to get into a comfortable position (though 10 is pretty young for arthritis-type problems in cats).
