Cat Head In A Jar

It seems the mainstream media loves cats and will gives them favorable treatment all the time. Thats why I find it incumbent upon myself to put stories on this blog about the realty of the the feline class. It doesnt hurt if theres a degrading picture to go along with it.
Take for instance this story of a kitty wasting taxpayer resources, by getting her head stuck in a jar.

I did. I was impressed at the word use. Except, at first I read “a chowder of cats” and thought, “Cat chowder...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...”

Hmmm...cat chowder? Probably not on my menu tonight, but it was nice of you to notice! Just between the two of us, I should have lied and said there were several kittens playing, then I could have used:
“...a kindle of kittens were playing in front of a clowder of cats...”
Think anyone would have noticed?

"a clowder of cats" I noticed, too, but just like RepoGirl, at first glance thought it was a chowder of cats. Malapropisms are always fun.

***Good Grief!! I’ve waited two decades to find a situation where I could use the phrase “a clowder of cats” and not one person noticed!? ***
I noticed. I NOTICED! I am enchanted by the expression. (Wonder how long it will be before *I* can find an occasion to use it.)

“Why would you call firefighters unless the cat was on fire? Call the emergency/ after hours vet.”
You might if there is one in your community and/or you have the wheels to get there or taxi money, etc.
I do know from my experience calling 911 for assistance (for a human thank you very much) that they can surprise you with what they dispatch to you. I can actually see firemen coming to help a stuck cat.
There is an Animal Rescue show on tv and it is amazing how many firemen and such gather to spend hours helping little animals all the way up to horses and cows. And they commonly show the same thing in other countries. Go figure but I think it is nice and beats the other stuff on the news.

I've also had private emails about collective nouns. A great book with over 1,000 entries is
An Exaltation of Larks by James Lipton. It also gives a history of how and why such words came about. Some of my favorites:
A leap of leopards
A charm of finches
A skulk of thieves
A parliament of owls
A whisper of nightengales
A crash of rhinoceroses
An ostentation of peacocks
A cowardice of curs
Kinda fun to know...kinda hard to use!

Thanks for the tip about the book,
An Exaltation of Larks.
Your list is delightful; this is one I hadn't heard before:
A cowardice of curs
Cur:
1. A dog considered to be inferior or undesirable; a mongrel.
2. A base or cowardly person.

A sounder of swine? I think you could work that in easily in any thread regarding Nancy Pelosi and her pals.
